BAND OF THE WEEK: XCOMM

Part of the fun of doing Audioeclectica as well as putting together shows with The Cobalt Presents (aka The Cobalt Cafe), is finding a ton of younger bands to showcase their music. For the past few years I’ve been a part of putting together some pretty amazing shows featuring young bands. One band in particular that we’ve had the pleasure of working with has released their debut single from their upcoming debut album, and that band is called XCOMM. It’s really great to hear young kids that get and understand the music they are playing.

XCOMM is a hardcore punk band that evokes pure raw emotion into their songs and performance. Their upcoming album was produced by the legendary Ross Robinson. “Reasons” is the first single from their record and it’s a righteous slab of hardcore that harks back to the golden era of it in the 80’s. The video for “Reasons” was also directed by one of my favorite video directors/photographers, Dean Karr. XCOMM might be kids but, if they keep this going, they are going to grow up quick and become a force to be reckoned with. I’m looking forward to what’s to come!

BAND OF THE WEEK: TREDICI

It’s always fun when people you know put out new music. The other day I heard a song by a friends band that has a really cool bluesy and alternative rock sound. It’s actually quite refreshing to hear a song, especially these days, that has these elements in it and be done so well. Allow me to introduce you to Tredici. This soulful bluesy rock band is quite the trip! The lush textures found throughout the song add interesting and dynamic levels while the vocals soar in a way that is almost cinematic. There is a lot more to come from Tredici and I’m getting quite excited about it! They make their stage debut on July 10 at The Mint in Los Angeles!

BAND OF THE WEEK: TONGUECUTTER


A couple weeks back I heard a band that sounded very much 90’s with that bit of thrashiness making it quite a fun listen. With that in mind I’d like to introduce you to, Tonguecutter. Tonguecutter is a power trio hailing from the remote lakeshore town of Muskegon, Michigan. Their sound is reminicent of The Pixies, The Breeders, Hole and L7 meets Anthrax and early Suicidal Tendencies. Another fun thing about Tonguecutter is how they throw in odd time signatures in their songs making it more fun for the listener as things happen out of left and right field. Their debut album, Minnow, is 11 songs chock full of rumbling bass, uppercutting drums, and bouncing riffs and vocals that leave a lasting impact. Vocalist/guitarist Chantal Roeske has a great voice that resonates quite well with the angst and reflection in the lyrics. I’ve quite enjoyed this album as it’s brought back a sound that I grew up on and love and it’s done right. There’s a rawness to Tonguecutter that really leaves a mark while exploring melodic moments and hooks that will leave you wanting more! Cheers to Tonguecutter and what is to come for them. Hopefully a Los Angeles show is in the cards for them as I definitely need to see them live!

BAND OF THE WEEK: IDLE HEIRS


You know that feeling you get when you hear a band and it immediately strikes a chord within? That’s how I felt when I first heard Idle Heirs. I’m not sure what I was looking for at that moment but, when I heard the first song released, I knew that this was the thing I was looking for. From that point on, I’ve highly been anticipating each single release as well as the album release (which is April 11 via Relapse Records). Idle Heirs is a new band that was formed by Coalesce vocalist Sean Ingram along with producer/multi instrumentalist, Josh Barber. The sheer intensity that is poured into each song really does play with your emotions in a fantastic way. The way the songs build and erupt is different than most bands that are in the “post-metal” genre. There is a push and pull vibe with the music and that mixes so well with the vocals. I love the rawness of the performance vocally. Sean Ingram has long been an influence and inspiration to many heavy bands over the years and to hear him be even more vulnerable and expressing himself in this way is beyond a treat. Their debut album, Life Is Violence, is 8 songs of some of the most intense moments I’ve heard in an album in quite some time. Even with the three songs released you can tell that this is not for the faint of heart. Idle Heirs and their debut album is one to look out for in 2025.

Band Of the Week: Nine Necks

There are a few bands that I’ve had my watchful eye on for some time waiting for them to release new music. Well one of those bands have released a killer new single off their forthcoming EP. The band I’m talking about is Nine Necks. Originally from Chicago, now residing in the greater Los Angeles area, Nine Necks are one hell of a band. Their sound is very much rooted in hardcore with bits of post-hardcore and metal and even a tinge of mid/late 90’s emo (before the scene got taken over by the fashion victims and that awful hair swoop). Their new EP, Ritual & Demise was recorded with Alex Estrada (Touche Amore, Drug Church, etc.) at The Pale Moon Ranch and was mastered by Chris Common (These Arms Are Snakes, The Mars Volta).  The first single “Laid To Rest” is an absolute banger and has elements of Botch and Converge throughout. After the first listen, I had to play it quite a few more times as I found myself drawn into the heaviness and brutality. I’m very excited for this new EP from Nine Necks. They have been on the Audioeclectica radar for sometime and I’m pumped for what’s to come from this band!

Band Of The Week: Futurelust

It’s very well known that I love finding new bands and new music to share. I recently came across a Los Angeles based band that really intrigued me, so much so that I felt compelled to book them on a show so I could see them live. Selfish I know but, I couldn’t resist it because I had a feeling that they would be a great band live and they were and then some. Allow me to introduce you to Futurelust. Futurelust is a rock band through and through with bits of prog rock, alternative (via 90’s alt rock), post-punk and even a bit of a pseudo goth tinge which adds to the already rocking elements. Their self titled debut album arrived in August of 2022 and it’s quite a record. The soaring melodies and thought provoking lyrics propel the rock to cinematic levels that play out like a kaleidoscope of vivid colors. Another thing that I really love about this band is that they “get it.” The songs are well crafted with sublime dynamics that will grab you and not let go. Futurelust is also a band that experiments quite well within their songs which gives you the listener something more to delve into and expand your listening mind. Even the bands most recent stand alone singles have shown great growth of the band as they are evolving in a manner that only adds to their stunning catalog. I’m quite excited to hear and see where Futurelust goes from here.

Band Of The Week: Machinekit

I’m always on the look for new and exciting music. Thankfully the other day, I got a message from a band that absolutely knocked my socks off! Allow me to introduce you to Machinekit! This techno-punk band is really grabbing my attention with their new single “Antipathy.” The song itself is an electro-techno punch to the gut with a punk mentality and tinges of metal that really drives the groove. Another thing that I really dig about Machinekit is their willingness to experiment within their songs to make something intriguing. Even with all the electronics going on, Machinekit likes to keep certain aspects raw. As you listen you hear the instruments and vocals in a way that harks back to a little bit of a Nine Inch Nails Broken era. Machinekit are a band that I am really looking forward to hearing what else they do and see live. Do yourself a favor and listen to Machinekit!

Band Of The Week: The Anti-Groupies

Ever since I started putting on shows with The Cobalt Presents, I’ve come across a lot of up and coming bands. There have definitely been a handful of stand outs and this band of the week is one of them. Allow me to introduce you to The Anti-Groupies. These ladies are absolute rockers. They have the right attitude, style and the songs to back up their already in your face sound. Part of what makes The Anti-Groupies stand out is there on stage performance. They play with a reckless abandon and precision that is pretty rad to watch. Their latest single “Read The Room” is a solid example of their style coming to life. One other thing that I really like about The Anti-Groupies is their willingness to evolve and try things that can push the boundaries of rock music. Do yourself a favor and take a listen to The Anti-Groupies and tell your friends!

Band Of The Week: Lived-In

A while back a band reached out to me asking me to check out their music. If you send me something, I will always listen. What I heard from the band that sent me their album is a group that has harnessed the 90’s sound in a couple ways mixing alternative rock and what would become post-hardcore. Allow me to introduce you to Lived-In. Armed with guitars, drums, bass and vocals and a good dose of melody, Lived-In are on the right track. Their new album, Everything Is Just Money Away is an aggressive yet catchy record with a melodic tinge. One of the things I really enjoyed most about their album is the intensity that propels the record. Musically there’s a diversity of heaviness, quiet to loud and a great use of atmosphere to make the songs sound huge. If you are a fan of bands like Jawbox, Failure, and Handsome, you’ll dig Lived-In. You can catch Lived-In live at Corbin Bowl on Saturday September 23, 2023 as part of The Cobalt Presents monthly showcase!

Band Of The Week: Will Haven

On July 7, 2023 the mighty Will Haven will unleash their long awaited new album, VII (pre-orders available HERE). I personally am quite stoked on there being a new Will Haven album. Their last opus, Muerte was top notch and showed that there is still much more in the tank. They have now released two singles “Wings Of Mariposa” and the latest offering “5 Of Fire” and oh boy is it a scorcher for damn sure. Guitarist Jeff Irwin said of the track ” ‘5 Of Fire‘ is to me the blueprint for this record; it’s heavy, chaotic, with different moods and tempo changes. We wanted to challenge ourselves by writing live in real time, and this song was the one to set that off. I love how it came out and I find myself going back and listening to it over and over again. I still find something new every time I listen.” Based on that little description, I’m even more excited to hear what lies ahead on the 10 songs that will be on the new record. I’ve always felt like Will Haven never got the due they deserved. Their 2001 album, Carpe Diem is still one of the gems of the time as well as their entire catalog. You can catch Will Haven live at this years Furnace Fest in September as well as at The Knitting Factory in North Hollywood on August 30 with Arc Angles, Stronger Than Machines, Cycotic Youth and more. And don’t forget to blast the ever living hell out of “5 Of Fire!!!!”
