BAND OF THE WEEK: ANTI-SPIRIT

There’s something in the air the last couple years. The way aggression and attitude has become prevalent in music again is exciting. The bands that have been able to hark back to the early 1990’s while adding different twists to the music, have been the ones that have caught my ear. Recently I was introduced to a band that has all the above and then some. Anti-Spirit is the band I’m talking about and they will definitely have you turning up the volume.

Anti-Spirit is a Los Angeles based band that combines grunge, punk and hardcore into a very compelling and dynamic sound. Think Nirvana (especially a song like “Aneurysm”), early Soundgarden/Mudhoney, a splash of Bad Religion and a nice helping of mid 90’s hardcore a la Snapcase and you have the recipe for Anti-Spirit. Their latest single “Cut Me Out” from their upcoming EP, Sick Talk (out 02.17.27) is a refreshing slab of unapologetic alt rock. It’s a short but awesome blast to your ears. This is a song that will make you press the pedal down on the gas, turn up the volume and go. The EP was produced by the band and Gabe Van (Youth Code, Failure) with drums by Converge’s Ben Koller.

2027 will be off to a great start with Anti-Spirit’s new EP. I very much look forward to it’s release. Be sure to check out what Anti-Spirit is doing.
