F YOU SONGS: SLIPKNOT- DISASTERPIECE

It’s always interesting when you wake up with a sense of aggression. Then on top of that feeling, somehow a song pops in your head and you feel the sense of catharsis through it. There’s music for every type of feeling and mood. That’s part of why I’m so immersed in it. The song that felt right and was the one in my head when I woke up was Slipknot’s “Disasterpiece” from their album, Iowa. The sheer intensity and ferociousness on this song is uncanny. Lyrically, it’s scathing and rightfully so. Musically, the way the song explodes, retreats a little, then explodes again is sublime. You feel every word as the music pulsates through you. In a strange way with “Disasterpiece,” you can have a bit of an out of body experience depending on your level of frustration and anger! Ross Robinson really brought out the best in Slipknot on this album through all their anger and frustration.

New Release: Slipknot- Yen

Slipknot have released a third song from their upcoming seventh album (yes that’s right 7th album). This one entitled “Yen” definitely has a Volume 3 vibe to it with a bit more heaviness. The new album, The End So Far will be out on September 30 via Roadrunner Records. Two other songs “The Dying Song (Time To Sing)” and “The Chapeltown Rag” have already been released.

Deep Cuts: Slipknot- Gently

Slipknot - Iowa - Amazon.com Music

Over the past week or so, I’ve gone through a deep dive of all the Slipknot albums. Throughout my listening extravaganza, I came to realize that if I had to pick a favorite Slipknot song it would most definitely be “Gently” from their second album, Iowa. This is one of those songs that packs so much into it yet, it’s a very minimalist song. It’s one of the songs in their catalog that is experimental yet totally makes sense. When put into the context of the sequence of the album on Iowa, “Gently” not only acts as a perfect transition piece of shifting the album into even darker territory. Something else that is quite interesting about this song is that it dates back to the very first Slipknot release, Mate Feed Kill Repeat. This is one song that I wish they would play more live. And now, “Gently.”

Secret Songs: Slipknot- Eeyore

Slipknot – Eeyore Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Yesterday the music world lost a force of nature behind the kit as well as a great songwriter in Joey Jordison. He was only 46 but left quite a legacy on the 4 Slipknot albums he was on as well as the plethora of other bands he played with like Rob Zombie, Korn and Ministry. While on a deep dive through their albums, I totally forgot about the secret song at the end of their debut self titled album. “Eyeore” is the track found at the end of the song “Scissors” and it’s a banger!! I will never forget the first time I heard them play it live. Holy Hell did it go HARD as Jamey Jasta would say. RIP Joey. Thank you for all the years of great tunes and performances.

F You Songs: Slipknot- People = Shit

Iowa — Slipknot | Last.fm

Perhaps the events in the world the last well, many years has made me more cynical but, anytime I see things in the news about ignorance, hatred, corruption or anything that fits that mold, I always find myself singing the chorus of Slipknot’s “People = Shit” to myself. It’s just a very fitting song when people start acting like utter morons. Also, it’s a great song when you just want to say F You to someone you just can’t stand or feel disgust towards. So, with that in mind, here’s another great F You song to add to the list!

Album Rank: Slipknot

Ever since Slipknot’s new album, We Are Not Your Kind came out, I’ve been hooked on it. We Are Not Your Kind is one hell of an album. In my opinion it’s the best album they’ve released since Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses. This new one has some of the darkest/heaviest lyrics since Iowa and musically it’s got a really interesting balance of Volume 3 and the self titled debut. With all that in mind, I thought a new ranking of Slipknot’s albums would be quite fitting.

New Release: Slipknot- Birth Of The Cruel

slipknotwearenotyourkind

Slipknot’s new album We Are Not Your Kind comes out this Friday (August 9). They’ve already put out 2 songs from the album (“Unsainted” and “Solway Firth“) and this new one “Birth Of The Cruel” is quite good. Kind of has a bit of a first album vibe to it. This album is shaping up to be something quite good, I hope.

Slipknot have unveiled the second official single from their new album “We Are Not Your Kind” with the music video for the track “Solway Firth.” The band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan directed the clip, which features footage of the upcoming Amazon Prime “The Boys” as well as live footage from their recent Eurpean tour. If you weren’t impressed with the first single “Unsainted,”  then this one will be the one that draws you in.
