Anticipated Albums: Sevendust- All I See Is War

sevendustalliseeiswarcd.jpg

Now on their 12th album (yes 12, crazy I know) Sevendust is back doing what Sevendust does, and that’s bring the ROCK. Their upcoming album, All I See Is War (out May 11 via Rise Records), is shaping up to a bit of a continuation of all the things fans of the band enjoy based on the two songs released so far, Dirty and Not Original. One thing that needs to be mentioned time and time again about Sevendust is how great of a singer Lajon Witherspoon is. That guy, man, he’s got so much soul in that voice and it’s bleeding all over this album. Check out what they have in store for us all.

Album Rank: Sevendust

Since about 1998 I’ve been a big Sevendust fan. There is something about this band that really hits the spot. They have a knack for writing really solid songs with great melody. They are for sure one of the more underrated bands out there. Not to mention that their live show is fantastic. Here is a ranking of their albums from not the best to the best. Enjoy!!!

Worst Cover Songs: Sevendust (LL Cool J)- Goin Back To Cali

I really like Sevendust. They have released some really great albums and songs. One thing I noticed throughout their career is that they hardly ever release covers. Back in the early 2000’s there was a compilation album of hard rock/metal bands covering hip hop songs. Sevendust would pick LL Cool J’s “Goin Back To Cali.” As much as I like Sevendust, I can’t help but think how bad this is.

Guest Vocalist: Aaron Lewis

This feature has really become one of my favorites to do. It’s always fun to go back and listen to these songs. Here are a bunch of songs that you may or may not have know that Aaron Lewis of Staind guested on.

New Release: Sevendust- Thank You

sevendustkilltheflawcover

Today is going to be a good day. Sevendust released the first song off their new album Kill The Flaw (which comes out October 2nd) entitled “Thank You.” This song is along the same lines of their earlier heavier songs off of Animosity and even the album Alpha, and with just the right amount of melody. It seems that doing that acoustic album helped reinvigorate the heavy in the band. Check it out!!!

Sevendust- Thank You:

Best Tribute Albums: Strait Up- Tribute To Lynn Strait

Strait_up

In Decemeber 1998 the singer for the band Snot was killed in a car accident. The band had been riding high after releasing their debut album Get Some in 1997. the band disbanded not too long after Strait’s death. Before his death though, the band had begun work on their follow up album, but Lynn had yet to record vocals for the album. So in 2000, it was decided that the album’s vocal tracks would be completed by friends of Strait as a tribute. The end result being “Strait Up.” Released on November 7, 2000, the album featured appearances by the lead vocalists Serj Tankian of System Of A Down, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Max Cavalera of Soulfly, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Dez Fafara of Coal Chamber, Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery and Morgan Rose of Sevendust amongst a few others. The album does feature one complete song entitled “Absent” with Lynn Strait’s vocals. When the album was released it was met with high praise from critics and assorted music magazines. A little known tidbit is that song that was sung by Serj on the tribute album actually had lyrics by Lynn, and if you’ve heard the live Snot album alive you’ll be able to hear that version.

The tribute album was very fitting and a really nice send off by all those involved to their fallen friend and brother. If you’ve never heard the album you really should!
