ULTIMATE TOUR/SET LIST: ANTHRAX, TRIVIUM, XCOMM

For the past week my friend and podcast co-host Justin of Sinister Reviews has been celebrating Anthrax and the release of their twelfth studio album, Cursum Perficio. Anthrax is his favorite band and what a fun thing to do. In the midst of our conversations we both started talking about dream set lists and who we’d want to see tour with Anthrax on their headline tour for the album. Needless to say both of us came up with a great idea of a tour as well as set lists. Note: this is only Belladonna era songs.

What you have below are our individual set lists for this dream scenario. We’ve chosen Anthrax to go on tour in 2027 (as that makes the most sense as there isn’t much of the year left) with Trivium as direct support and since it’s fun to do and why not “Keep It In The Family” with XCOMM as the opening band. As you can tell, we’re definitely not the casual fan of Anthrax. Both of us have dug deep to really go with choice deep cuts, rarely or never played songs, One of us has a couple more “hits” than the other. See if you can tell who!

DREAM TOUR/SETLIST: MASTODON, FAILURE & CAVE IN

We all have made lists of bands we’d love to see tour together. The endless possibilities that are out there make for some pretty amazing ideas. There’s one idea I’ve had for quite a while now that I’ve finally put together. I’ve long had this idea in my mind for years, that a Mastodon tour with Failure would be absolutely mind blowing. What a compelling one / two punch. To completely put this tour over the top would be to add Cave In as the opening act.

Each band is phenomenal on their own. Then you combine all three under one venue and you’ve got a recipe for a sonic experience your mind will never forget. Each bands set is full of songs you love and choice deep cuts that you’d not expect.

DREAM TOUR AND SET LIST: THE SMASHING PUMPKINS & STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

The other day I was listening/watching an interview Billy Corgan did with Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots. If you haven’t seen the interview, it’s quite a good one. Billy asks really good questions and the history they all go into is rather fascinating. While I was listening, I had an idea and I started to put it all together. What if in 2026 there was a tour that had The Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots together? Personally, I think it would be one hell of a tour and each night it would be pretty magical. A couple days ago, I saw a post that Failure’s drummer Kellii Scott had completed drum tracking for the next Failure album. This was a really awesome thing to find out as I’ve been itching for a new Failure record. As such with news like that, it got my gears spinning and I went on a bit of a Failure dive. Ultimate Set List: Deftones (Updated)

One of my good friends just went to the annual Dia De Los Deftones festival. It looked like a pretty solid show especially with Knocked Loose and Rile playing alongside Deftones. After the show was over my buddy sent me some video of some songs and I naturally looked up the set list. It was nice to see some rarities played though the majority of the set was a lot of the usual suspects. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, sometimes, it would just be nice to switch it up. Which brings me to my next Ultimate Set List, an updated Deftones set. This one is pretty damn good if I say so myself.

Since Mudvayne announced their return after 12 long years, I’ve been on a bit of a Mudvayne kick. It’s been fun to go back and revisit all their albums, especially LD 50 and The End Of All Things To Come. While doing that I found myself thinking what should they play when they take the stage. Sevendust is one of my favorite bands. They have always put on a great live show. There is one thing about seeing Sevendust though that gets old and that’s their set list. Ultimate Set List: Bush

I thoroughly enjoy making these Ultimate Set Lists. It’s quite fun to think of a dream scenario where you get to pick all the songs (well up to 25) for a live show. One band I’ve been listening to a lot lately is Bush. Mainly I’ve been listening to their new single “Bullet Holes” from the John Wick 3 soundtrack. It’s such a rad song that takes me back to the Sixteen Stone and Razorblade Suitcase days. Currently, Bush is out on tour with Live as both bands are celebrating the 25 year mark of their albums Sixteen Stone and Throwing Copper. I was intrigued to go to the show but, not sure I really want to knowing that the setlist for both bands are rather short and kind of dull. They will be going out with quite the diverse line up featuring, Primus, Ministry and Phil Anselmo & The Illegals with the latter playing a set of Pantera songs. Depeche Mode is one of my favorite bands. Through the years, I’ve really come to admire the honest approach they take when they create albums.
