This week I present you with another cover song that I’m torn on. Stone Sour put out a second covers EP and on it was their version of The Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter.” On one hand there are moments that are really good. Then I think to myself am I hearing this right? I’m interested in what your take is on this classic song being covered.

Lately, I’ve been sharing some of the worst covers ever with you all and it’s been quite fun to read your responses. With that in mind I present to you a cover I’ve long considered to be on the cusp of horrible and mediocre. What do you think of Fear Factory’s cover of U2’s “I Will Follow?”

I woke up this morning with Silverchair’s “Israel’s Son” stuck in my head. That riff is timeless. Anyways, while delving into my Silverchair albums I sought out seeing what covers they have done, I came across this interesting version of Black Flag’s “Wasted/Fix Me.” I’m still torn as to if I like it or not, but I can tell you that Daniel John’s vocals on it are quite fun and make this cover worth checking out. On a sidenote, the era of Black Flag these songs appear are with Keith Morris on vocals, in case you were wondering.

Yesterday Deftones released a teaser for their new album GORE, which should be out in April. While talking to a friend of mine about it, for some reason Deftones cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” popped into my head. It had been a little bit since I heard it and now I feel compelled to share it with you.

I’ve recently started listening to System Of A Down again. Only the first two albums though. Anyways, while on my System kick I remembered that they covered Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind,” and it’s really good. So here you go!

The Velvet Underground is in my top 10 of favorite bands of all time. Lou Reed has always been an inspiration to me in the way he writes music and tells stories through his lyrics. Almost 15 years ago Dave Navarro released a solo album called Trust No One that was really quite good. On this album he included a cover of “Venus In Furs.” This is a different approach to this song than the original, and is quite good. Take a listen to Dave’s and the original, and experience something intriguing. On a side note, Roy Mayorga (Soulfly, Stone Sour, Nausea, Abloom) played drums on this track.

This has always been one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs. When I heard Smashing Pumpkins cover it many many years ago, I loved the song even more. There is something to the way that Billy Corgan arranges songs, to make them his own. Enjoy this wonderful cover!

I’ve been wanting to do this cover comparison for a while now. Anyone that knows me very well, knows that I’m a huge Bon Jovi fan. I’ve seen them perform this version a few times and it is amazing. Jeff Buckley did a great job with it too. I’m going to have to go with Jon’s version though. There is just something so amazing about it. Leonard Cohen even thought it was that good too that he even said that it’s Jon’s song now. What one do you think is best?

So this past week as you can tell I’ve been back on a Smashing Pumpkins kick. I was searching through covers that they did over the years and wanted to do something in those regards. So while looking up Smashing Pumpkins covers I remembered that Bush also covered Stevie Nicks “Landslide.” So what one do you think is better?
