Recently, Thrice released a great new album entitled To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere. While on their promotional tour, they stopped by some radio stations to perform a few songs acoustically. One of the songs they played during a stop at Sirius XM was The Smashing Pumpkins classic “1979.” It’s a very stripped down version and it’s pretty solid.

Check it out.

“Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” is on my top 5 list of favorite Led Zeppelin songs. This song is so delicate and beautiful and hits hard when the build comes in. That part is one of my all time favorite parts of any song ever. Recently one of my favorite newer bands of the past couple years The Last Internationale covered this song. The vocal performance from singer Delila Paz is tremendous. It’s subtle yet full of emotion, soul and grit. This is one of those covers that should be on many people’s lists of great covers.

Cover Thursday: Hotwire (Rolling Stones)- Let’s Spend The Night Together

I’ve mentioned before that there are certain bands that were really good but didn’t get the due and push they needed. Hotwire is one of those bands for sure. On their Japanese release of their debut album The Routine, they included a cover of The Rolling Stones “Let’s Spend The Night Together.” While this isn’t the best cover, it’s a fun version that is very fitting as a good fun summer time song.

If you aren’t familiar with Head Wound City, they are made up of members of The Blood Brothers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Locust. In May they will release a new album called A New Wave Of Violence. These gents just released a single which included a cover of Ministry’s “Just One Fix.” It’s a really great cover, and captures the craziness of the original, all the while making it their own.

Cover Thursday: Pearl Jam (Pink Floyd)- Comfortably Numb

Pink Floyd isn’t an easy band to cover. I’ve heard a lot of bands try to cover them and fall short. Pearl Jam absolutely nailed it. Eddie Vedder kills it vocally, Mike McCready slays the guitar solo. He’s so damn good!!! This cover is done so well.

Cover Thursday: A Perfect Circle (Marvin Gaye)- What’s Going On

I woke up in the mood to listen to A Perfect Circle. While listening, I had the strange want to listen to their eMotive album. When I got to their version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” I thought this is the one I’m posting for the week. The original is still amazing and will hold for generations to come. A Perfect Circle did a solid job with it. It’s quite interesting how much a song written in the 70’s still resonates with the world today.
