Band Of the Week: Nine Necks

There are a few bands that I’ve had my watchful eye on for some time waiting for them to release new music. Well one of those bands have released a killer new single off their forthcoming EP. The band I’m talking about is Nine Necks. Originally from Chicago, now residing in the greater Los Angeles area, Nine Necks are one hell of a band. Their sound is very much rooted in hardcore with bits of post-hardcore and metal and even a tinge of mid/late 90’s emo (before the scene got taken over by the fashion victims and that awful hair swoop). Their new EP, Ritual & Demise was recorded with Alex Estrada (Touche Amore, Drug Church, etc.) at The Pale Moon Ranch and was mastered by Chris Common (These Arms Are Snakes, The Mars Volta).  The first single “Laid To Rest” is an absolute banger and has elements of Botch and Converge throughout. After the first listen, I had to play it quite a few more times as I found myself drawn into the heaviness and brutality. I’m very excited for this new EP from Nine Necks. They have been on the Audioeclectica radar for sometime and I’m pumped for what’s to come from this band!

New Release: Iress- Falling

I’ve been impatiently waiting for this day so I could write about Iress’s new single, “Falling” from their upcoming album, Sleep Now, In Reverse (out July 26th via Dune Altar)!!! What a way to kick off a week! “Falling” is a beautifully dreamy and haunting song with an undercurrent of heaviness in the shape of a bit of doom and shoegaze. Then you add in the vocals that, send the chills right up your whole body. What a song AND a track one on the album! I personally can’t wait for this album to arrive and for what’s to come for Iress.

2023 End Of The Year Lists: Results

Thank you all for making 2023 a great year for Audioeclectica. I hope you all found new and old bands to love and delve into. As 2024 begins, there will be new things coming to Audioeclectica including the long awaited return of The Audioeclectica Podcast as well as Radio Show, also coming are new topics, a revamp to the look of the site and many more surprises. Album Review: Iress- Solace

I’m sure we’ve all heard albums that have left a last impression on ones self. Sometimes these albums take us to different places be it in our minds, imaginations, etc. Then there are times when an album comes out that hits you at the right moment in all the right ways and it makes it feel like everything will be ok because of that album. A couple months back the band Iress, released the song “Ricochet” off their now released and utterly spellbinding and superb EP, Solace. The moment I heard that song, I knew there was something more to it than just a “dark/moody vibe.” What I found was a band that sonically devastates while at the same time draws you in seductively. Iress’s new EP, Solace is a piece of art and music that hypnotizes you while the words and vocals crawl under your skin and gives you the type of chills that you might find when you reach that moment of clarity. The life that these songs breathe is astounding. One of the most intriguing factors about Iress is their ability to utilize atmosphere and space to balance out the heavy nature of the songs. It’s a feeling you will notice as you listen. Through all the darkness on these songs, the hope and light found throughout is breathtaking. The depths these songs take you and the place it leaves you in the end is the light at the end of the tunnel. Fronted by Michelle Malley (aka The Adele Of Doom) her vocals and guitar take you on quite a journey of love, loss, pain, and anguish all while the band Graham Walker (guitar), Michael Maldonado (bass) and Glenn Chu (drums) create the soundtrack to all this and add the right sonic elements the leaves you breathless. Another aspect that makes this release so damn good is the production. Producer/Engineer/Mixer Alex Estrada (Touche Amore, Joyce Manor, etc) makes this all come to life by capturing the raw and emotional charged performances of each member. There is no mistaking the magnitude that Iress puts out and with this EP it’s not even close to where their potential lays. I personally can’t wait to hear what else this band does and goes musically. Solace is not just a superb release, it’s my favorite release of 2023. Congratulations to all involved in the creation and release of this masterful EP. Iress is here and they are coming for you! You can pick up your copy of the EP now via the one and only Dune Altar Records (one of the best indie labels around)!

Band Of The Week: IRESS

There is something to be said about finding beauty in darkness. In this case it’s found within the band Iress. The moment I heard this band, I knew there was something more to it than just a “dark/moody vibe.” What I found was a band that sonically devastates while at the same time draws you in seductively. Iress derives their name from two concepts that when put together perfectly describes what this band is all about; Ire, as in fury, indignation, rage, and wrath and  -ess as a noun suffix meaning “female”. Now that combination has been recorded and now gearing up to be unleashed upon us all. Dubbed the “Adele of Doom” by her local LA music peers, frontwoman Michelle Malley’s vocals are subtle yet powerful as she sings of love, loss, pain, and anguish but, with such restraint that it’s almost hypnotic how the melodies seep into your pores and make your skin crawl in a fantastic way. The band itself brings all this to life with their willingness to serve the songs and provide the right amounts of atmosphere, heaviness and an unrelenting passion that really makes this all come together. Iress’s sound stretches across different sub-genres but the way it all comes together is tremendous. By mixing, doom, shoegaze, metal, dream pop and ambient/psychedelic sounds, Iress has the recipe for one of the best releases of 2023. The first single “Ricochet” from their upcoming EP, Solace is absolutely stunning. Once you listen to this song you’ll feel compelled to play it again and again. One more thing I have to talk about is the production on this single and EP. It’s truly stunning. Being able to capture the rawness and real emotion of these songs is astounding. Producer/Engineer/Mixer Alex Estrada did a phenomenal job on this record. I’m personally really stoked on this band and can’t wait to hear more and see this all come together live. Do yourself a favor and on May 12 via Dune Altar Records (one of my favorite Indie Labels by the way), pick up a copy of this EP!

Album Review: Deaf Club- Productive Disruption

Deaf Club just released an unrelenting force of nature with their album, Productive Disruption. The band features Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Planet B), Brian Amalfitano (ACxDC), Scott Osment (Weak Flesh), Jason Klein (Run With The Hunted), and Tommy Meehan (The Manx, Chum Out!) and their savage sound comes with a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind with a touch of metal. Productive Disruption, was was recorded by Alex Estrada and Tommy Meehan and they captured the true essence of the band, raw, live and uncompromising. There is real sense or urgency when listening to this album. The intensity and passion delivered with the performances of each member proves that this isn’t for the weak hearted. The songs are written and played at breakneck speed but, with the right amount of space between to catch your breath before the onslaught continues. To accompany the release of the album the band performed the whole thing live and when you watch it, the energy radiating from the screen will start pumping your blood faster and the next thing you know a full on mosh pit will erupt from your seat. Deaf Club have started 2022 album releases off with an utter bashing to your head in a total good way!

I’ve always loved heavy music. Doesn’t matter the genre, I will find bands within them that I dig. Punk music is one such genre I’ve had an affinity towards for many many years. The aggression, intensity and energy that emits from this genre is what keeps me coming back. Which now brings me to the Band Of The Week, Deaf Club. Deaf Club is a band that takes no prisoners. Their savage sound comes with a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind with a touch of metal. The band consists of Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Planet B), Brian Amalfitano (ACxDC), Scott Osment (Weak Flesh), Jason Klein (Run With The Hunted), and Tommy Meehan (The Manx, Chum Out!). The pace at which the band plays, delivers the goods in such a way that is at a breakneck speed with the right amount of space between to catch your breath before the onslaught continues. Their new single “For A Good Time, Call Someone Else” is exactly what I described and then some. Their album, Productive Disruption, was was recorded by Alex Estrada and Tommy Meehan and will be out January 6, 2022 via Three One G Records. Ironically, Deaf Club’s debut LP was recorded on the same day as what would become known colloquially as The Insurrection – January 6th, 2021. Deaf Club is a relentless and ferocious band that I’m sure will be decimating venues along their path.

Band Of The Week: Silver Snakes

Building on the post-hardcore/alternative hybrid, Silver Snakes delivers a heavy, uncompromising, melodic sensibility to their genre. Silver Snakes recently released Year Of The Snake, the follow up to 2011’s Pictures of a Floating World. This new album is well rounded. It goes beyond the normal post-hardcore formula and expands to include delicate textures, acoustic elements and more of a heavier foray. Throughout their time as a band, Silver Snakes have toured with bands such as HRVRD, Broadway Calls, Sainthood Reps, Defeater, Junius, Souvenirs and Aeges (who have been featured here!) and done scattered dates with Coheed & Cambria, Balance & Composure, Shiner, Touché Amore, and Narrows. The band has also appeared at festivals such as Sound & Fury, Gainesville’s The Fest, Fun Fun Fun Nights and South By Southwest. Silver Snakes are definitely a band to look out for when they come to your town! Singer/guitarist is also a sought after producer/engineer. His credits include Silver Snakes, And We Are Them, Touche Amore, Nails, and more.
