New Release

New Release: Del Judas- Angela

A long while back I introduced you to Del Judas and his fantastic debut album, Deity. That album is still in my rotation, especially when I want to just mellow out. Now, here we are a few years since Deity and Del Judas is back with yet another great song, “Angela.” This new song paints a very vivid picture that explores the complexities of love, loss, heartache, and the journey of overcoming grief. This emotional track is one that will definitely stay with you for quite some time. I’ve personally had it on repeat as it just has a vibe that fits what I’m listening to at the moment. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this song and while you’re at it, go back and listen to Deity. It’s really a great album!

New Release: Gatecreeper- The Black Curtain

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed something interesting happening within the Death Metal realm of heavy music. What I’ve noticed is a lot more dynamics and attention to songwriting rather than just playing as fast as possible and screaming bloody murder. The new wave of American Death Metal has found its place and with bands like Gatecreeper leading the charge, it’s going to get quite exciting to hear where things go. Speaking of Gatecreeper, they are back with a new album, Dark Superstition (out May 17 via Nuclear Blast Records), which was recorded by Converge guitarist, Kurt Ballou. The first single, “The Black Curtain” draws from what I mentioned in the beginning as well as having a bit more of a heavy rock tinge without crossing over the line into too melodic of a territory. Gatecreeper are fast becoming a name to know amongst the heavy music circles and with this new album, they are sure to leave quite a mark.

New Release: Great Falls- Trap Feeding

Last year, Seattle’s own Great Falls released their album, Objects Without Pain. It was one of my favorite albums of 2023 and it’s one of those albums that with each listen, I love more and more. If you are in the mode for something heavy, noisey, sludgey and just a great all around band than I really think you should be listening to Great Falls. Ahead of the band making their way across the pond to be the direct support for Botch’s reunion/farewell tour, Great Falls have released a vide for their song “Trap Feeding.” This video captures the energy of Great Falls live and then some. Brace yourself for what Great Falls brings, it’s one hell of a volatile punch that is greatly needed in heavy music!

New Release: Gouge Away- Spaced Out

In only a couple short weeks time, Gouge Away will release their new album, Deep Sage, one of the records I’ve been anticipating most in 2024. Already the glimpses into this album have shown the progression and evolution of the band. On this new track “Spaced Out” it’s one of those short and sweet bangers that just exudes energy! March 15th is not that far off, so be sure to pick up a copy of this one! The Jack Shirley produced/engineered/mixed album is one of the best of 2024 and it’s only March! Also be sure to check them out on tour with Metz this April and May.

New Release: Gouge Away- Dallas

Gouge Away are one of the bands I’ve been impatiently for a new album from and the wait is almost over. On March 15, Gouge Away will release their new album, Deep Sage. After a brief hiatus during the pandemic, the band reconvened in late 2022 to pick up where they left off with writing what would become their new album. In March 2023, Gouge Away teamed up with Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden East and began recording the album. The album was recorded completely analog and almost entirely live. The band performed together in a live room while vocalist Christina Michelle was in an isolation booth, her vocals projected from a monitor so the band could hear her. The end result is a raw unapologetic, noisey yet introspective record that is at the heart of what this band has always been.

New Release: Frail Body- Refrain

This week seems to be a week where I keep listening to bands I haven’t in a while. Well, let’s keep the train rolling with this gem. Frail Body is back with their upcoming second album, Artificial Bouquet which arrives March 29, 2024 via Deathwish Inc. The first single released “Refrain” is one hell of a track that blurs the lines of hardcore, post-hardcore, black metal, and what the origins of “screamo” were all about. Personally, I’m excited to hear where this band goes from this point. This song is only the start of something I have a feeling.

New Release: Gost- Widow Song

A couple years back I was introduced to Gost and I was rather intrigued by what I heard. Then when Greg Puciato did his first solo show, Gost was one of the openers and from there I got more into them. Now, Gost returns with a new album that is “exhilarating and dangerous at the same time.” The first single released “Widow Song” is a mesh of new wave and black metal influences creating quite the boisterous sound. The new album, Prophecy arrives March 8th via Metal Blade Records!

New Release: Zombi- The Post-Atomic Horror

Zombi is a band I haven’t heard in quite some time. This duo has a knack for making really intriguing music which blends prog rock, electronics and an affinity for ‘70s and ‘80s era horror films. So much so that when you listen to them, it’s quite easy to get swept up in the mood and vibe they create in a very cinematic way. Their eagerly-awaited new album, Direct Inject (March 22, Relapse Records) is nine songs of Steve Moore (synth/bass/guitar) and AE Paterra (drums/percussion/electronics) with contributions from percussionist Jeff Gretz (Zao/From Autumn To Ashes), and guitar player Phil Manley (Trans Am). The first song released from, Direct Inject, is “’The Post-Atomic Horror’ which is quite the way to introduce this album. According to Zombi, this song has “No trappings from our machines, just bass and drums, as stripped down as we can be. Definitely one for us to lean into on stage – a few minutes of riffs and wide open drums.” The rest we will have to wait for. Until then, enjoy this new Zombi track and delve into what else they’ve done. It’s quite the catalog of goodies!

New Release: Better Lovers- Two Alive Amongst The Dead

After one hell of a Summer and Fall tour, Better Lovers have dropped another banger of a song. This one “Two Amongst The Dead,” was written while the band was on the road this summer. This song was performed and fine-tuned on the bands Fall dates, and then immediately tracked in the studio between touring to make sure that fire stayed intact. Speaking on what the song is about singer Greg Puciato said “This song is about saying fuck you to the societal and institutional pressure to fall for ‘me versus you’/’us versus them’ divisional tactics and realizing that we’re stronger when we remember the ways we’re the same, trying to find commonalities instead of differences. Understanding and finding compassion for one another instead of allowing ourselves to be separated and controlled. Brothers and sisters. Pieces of the same consciousness.” This song rips! I remember hearing it a few weeks back when I saw Better Lovers live and this song went off! Strap in for another banger from Better Lovers!
