New Release: Cold- Shine

Capture.PNG

It’s been a minute since Cold has released new music (2011 to be exact). Well, the wait is over, as Cold has released the single “Shine” from their upcoming album The Things We Can’t Stop. This song is Cold at a more mature stage but, with the same emotional charge that they’ve always been known for. The new album is out September 13.

New Release: Korn- You’ll Never Find Me

kornthenothing.jpg

On September 13, Korn will be releasing their new album, The Nothing. The band again worked with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Mastodon, Deftones, Foo Fighters, etc). The first single “You’ll Never Find Me” is out now. This song has a similar vibe of the last album (The Serenity Of Suffering) and somewhat of a Life Is Peachy element. One has to think that will all the turmoil of Jonathan Davis’s wife passing, he’s got a lot of “feelings” to get through on this new album.

Anticipated Albums: Killswitch Engage- Atonement

killswitchengageatonement.jpg

On August 16, Killswitch Engage will release their new (and eighth) album Atonement. Today the band released the first single, “Unleashed.” Speaking on the song, singer Jesse Leach said “Unleashed’ is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface. We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within. I feel we were able to capture something raw and intense on this song and I’m stoked for everyone to hear it! The new album Atonement is a reflection of perseverance and passion through the trials and suffering of our existence.” The album also features guest spots from Howard Jones formerly of the band and now singer of Light The Torch, as well as Testatment’s Chuck Billy.

Anticipated Albums: Drab Majesty- Modern Mirror

Drab Majesty are one of the newer bands in the last few years that have really intrigued me. Over the last couple months I’ve delved into their catalog and found a real appreciation for the artistic nuances of this band. On July 12, Drab Majesty will be releasing their new (and third album) Modern Mirror on July 12 via Dais Records. The record was produced by Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) and mastered by Dave Cooley, with appearances by Jasamine White-Gluz (No Joy) and Justin Meldal-Johnson (NIN, Beck, M83, Air). Based on the three singles released so far, Modern Mirror is going to be one hell of an album for 2019.

New Release: Liam Gallagher- Shockwave

Liam-Gallagher.png

Liam Gallagher is back again with a new single “Shockwave” from his upcoming second solo album, Why Me? Why Not. Liam’s first solo album, As You Were, was a tremendous record full of great rock songs and cemented his place as being able to carry on without his brother Noel. It seems that this new album will be just as rocking as the first. Check out “Shockwave.”

On August 9th, Slipknot will be releasing their new album “We Are Not Your Kind.” The first single “Unsainted” was released today along with a video directed by the bands M. Shawn Crahan (aka Clow,n, aka #6). Guitarist Jim Root has stated about the upcoming album “This is most time we’ve had to write a record, and work stuff out together. One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full length albums – not just songs. While the industry is moving toward singles, Slipknot wanted to make an album experience, front to back.” Interestingly, the previously released song “All Out Life” is not on the album.

Track List:

New Release: Cave In- Shake My Blood

mail
June 7th is only a few weeks away, and that is when we get the new (and final?) Cave In album Final Transmission. Today, they have released another new song entitled “Shake My Blood.” This new song is a pretty deep and heavy track. It also has a sort of Jupiter feel to it. Granted there have only been two songs released so far, this one and “All Illusion” but, I can already sense that this album is going to be one of the best albums of the year and be in constant rotation for a long time to come.

Anticipated Albums: Wear Your Wounds- Rust On The Gates Of Heaven

I love side projects. Especially when they deviate from the style of music you’ve associated someone with for so long. Wear Your Wounds is one of my favorite side projects I’ve ever heard. Wear Your Wounds was created by Converge founder Jacob Bannon. Initially conceived as a solo project, it evolved into a five-piece band that often works with collaborating musicians. In 2017, the debut self titled double album was released followed closely by the even more experimental Dunedevil, which was also an accompaniment to Bannon’s abstract art book of the same name. Now, Wear Your Wounds, prepare to release their new album Rust on the Gates of Heaven (out July 12 via Deathwish Inc.).  The release marks the first time the official lineup of the band; Jacob Bannon (Converge), Mike McKenzie (The Red Chord, Stomach Earth, Unraveller, etc), Adam McGrath (Cave In, Nomad Stones, etc), Sean Martin (Twitching Tongues, ex-Hatebreed, ex-Kid Cudi), and Chris Maggio (ex-Trap Them, ex-Sleigh Bells, etc) have properly written and recorded together. It also features musicians Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe, White Horse) and Gared O’Donnell (Planes Mistaken For Stars, Hawks and Doves) collaborating throughout. Watch and or listen to the music video for the album’s eponymous first single now. Personally I can’t wait for this album to come out. So do yourself a favor and dive in to this great band and their work.

Cover Song: Stephen Brodsky & Marissa Nadler- (Guns N Roses)- Estranged

Capture.PNG
Cave In and Mutoid Man’s Stephen Brodsky is quite the busy guy. In addition to the two bands I just mentioned, he’s got a project with vocalist Marissa Nadler. Their collaborative album entitled Droneflower will be released April 26th via Sacred Bones Records. They have released a couple songs from the album. The first was an original song called “For The Sun,” which is quite a haunting introduction to the band. The second though is a cover of Guns N Roses’ “Estranged.” This is one of the best cover songs I’ve ever heard. “Estranged” happens to be my favorite GnR song of all time, so I was a tad skeptical before listening but, within seconds, I knew that this was amazing. Everything about this cover is perfect. It’s a totally different take on the GnR classic and it’s just beautiful.
