TRACK ONE: RADIOHEAD- PLANET TELEX

For a couple weeks now, I’ve been on a huge Radiohead kick. They are seriously one of those bands that every time you go back and listen to, there is something else to fall in love with. The other day, I was sitting around just listening to The Bends and I couldn’t help but restart the first song, “Planet Telex” at least 5 times. There is something really special about this song and how it really starts off the album. The way Radiohead has experimented over the years is astonishing in its own right. When you listen to The Bends, you can start to hear them moving in varying directions and “Planet Telex” is one of those sweet moments. The shoegaze mixed with psychedelia and alternative rock is magical! It’s one of those songs that you don’t want it to end.

ANTICIPATED ALBUMS: HEAVY HALO- DAMAGED DREAM

A little while back I brought up a band called Heavy Halo and I’ve been totally enthralled by them. Their distinctive sound that mixes electronic, industrial, alternative and a bit of goth makes for one hell of an enjoyable listen. Imagine if Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, and a dash of (early) New Order, put that all together and you get Heavy Halo. Their album Damaged Dream comes out on July 25 and it’s definitely one of the most anticipated albums for the rest of 2025 for me. There are so many different things to unpack when listening to this band and their album. One of the things that I love most is the use of melody throughout which brings a different light to the genre. The hooks found in the songs as well, drive home that there is more in these songs than just beats. Lyrically too, its a deeply reflective album that resonates in many different ways. July 25 can’t come soon enough so the rest of you can hear this album! Really stoked on what’s to come from this band and I still have hope that there will be a Los Angeles show in the near future because I need to see this live!

SONG OF THE WEEK: THE ANTI GROUPIES- I CAN’T

The Anti Groupies are one of the most exciting and best up and coming bands in all of the Southern California area! I’ve said it before about these ladies that they are the rock band we’ve been waiting for! They have the right attitude, songs, performance, can play their asses off and a great take no prisoners approach. Did I mention their songs?! Every song released since their inception has gotten better and better. Their most recent single “I Can’t” is one of the best “summer songs” I’ve heard in a long time. Not just that, it’s super anthemic in a fun catchy way. Cassidy, Isabella, Sydney and Kyla have a bond that not a lot of bands have and their authentic selves shine oh so bright. I’m personally quite excited for what’s to come for The Anti Groupies! Do yourself a favor check out this song and all their others, and make sure to go see them live!

BAND OF THE WEEK: TREDICI

It’s always fun when people you know put out new music. The other day I heard a song by a friends band that has a really cool bluesy and alternative rock sound. It’s actually quite refreshing to hear a song, especially these days, that has these elements in it and be done so well. Allow me to introduce you to Tredici. This soulful bluesy rock band is quite the trip! The lush textures found throughout the song add interesting and dynamic levels while the vocals soar in a way that is almost cinematic. There is a lot more to come from Tredici and I’m getting quite excited about it! They make their stage debut on July 10 at The Mint in Los Angeles!

DEEP CUTS: NINE INCH NAILS- PLEASE

Those that know me know I’m a GIANT Nine Inch Nails fan. I could write pages about why they are my favorite band but, I’ll save that for another day or even for a future podcast episode. The Fragile is my all time favorite album. Ever since it came out in 1999 it has yet to leave my constant rotation and it’s one of those albums I find is a warm blanket record. There are so many great songs found throughout the album. There is maybe one song that I skip (Star Fuckers Inc.) but, for the most part I don’t. The other day while listening to the full album, I found myself stuck on one song in particular and that would be the song “Please.” This song is so damn good and one of those that I wish would be played live a lot more. One of the other cool things about “Please” is the layers and textures of the instrumentation found throughout. And for those of you like me that are rabid NIN fans, depending on what version you have (CD or Vinyl) part of the song “10 Miles High” can be found at the beginning or the end of the song. Since Nine Inch Nails are touring again and I will be at both Los Angeles shows in Sepetember, lets put this out in the universe and see if we can make it happen “PLEASE!!!!!”

MEMORABLE LIVE PERFORMANCES: BUSH at CBGB’s 1995

Back in 1995 at the legendary CBGB’s, a little known band from England, made their first trip over the pond to the United States and from that point on, the rest is history. That band was Bush, and their set at CBGB’s became one of those that has lived on in the bands lore and story. Bush’s very first US show took place on January 25, 1995. From everything I’ve ever read about this show, it was one of those that was beyond packed. People were standing on the bar, on shoulders of others and people sat outside to hear what was going on. The setlist for this night too was one of those that is a dream. Interestingly too, a couple songs played this evening like “Straight No Chaser” and “Broken TV” would go on to appear on Bush’s second album Razorblade Suitcase. “Broken TV” being a b-side. This performance is one that I’ve been going back to for years. I was and still am a big fan of this band. Gavin still sounds great and if anything the band has only gotten better. 30 years after their start and Bush is still kicking ass and taking names! Really look forward to the new album, I Beat Loneliness coming out in July! Enjoy this show!

Set List:
01) Alien
02) Machine Head
03) Straight No Chaser
04) Monkey
05) Body
06) Everything Zen
07) Bomb
08) Comedown
09) Broken TV
10) Little Things

SONGS IN FILM: SID VICIOUS (FRANK SINATRA)- MY WAY FROM GOODFELLAS

I love watching movies and TV shows and having those moments when a song really brings a scene or moment to life. It’s genuinely a really great experience and those that last in your mind for quite some time. The other night I was watching the classic and one one the best mob movies of all time, Goodfellas. This movie is downright fantastic. Sometimes I wish it were a longer movie like Casino is. The scene at the end of the film and how things play out is one of those that should be studied in film school. The way it’s shot, the actors, and of course the song. Martin Scorcese has always had a great ear for picking songs for his films and his inclusion of “My Way” the Sid Vicious version not the Frank Sinatra one really adds to this even more. The attitude in the Sid version has always stood out to me and it comes even more to life with being a part of this scene.

NEW RELEASE: BLACK MAGNET- BETTER THAN LOVE

A couple weeks back the very awesome Black Magnet released “Endless,” the first single from their upcoming new album, Megamantra (out July 25 via Federal Prisoner). “Endless” was just the beginning though as Black Magnet have released another song, “Better Than Love.” If you thought “Endless” was a kick to the teeth, “Better Than Love” expands upon their already punishing industrial sound and adds a great left turn to their style that immediately pulls you in and doesn’t let go. I’m quite stoked for this new album. 2025 looks to be a great year for Black Magnet!!
