DREAM TOUR AND SET LIST: THE SMASHING PUMPKINS & STONE TEMPLE PILOTS

The other day I was listening/watching an interview Billy Corgan did with Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots. If you haven’t seen the interview, it’s quite a good one. Billy asks really good questions and the history they all go into is rather fascinating. While I was listening, I had an idea and I started to put it all together. What if in 2026 there was a tour that had The Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots together? Personally, I think it would be one hell of a tour and each night it would be pretty magical. So, with that in mind, I put together what I think would be 2 great set lists for both bands. Also, check out the interview too!

The Magnificent Ones Interview with Robert & Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots:

New Release: Stone Temple Pilots- Roll Me Under

Stone Temple Pilots have released another new song from their upcoming self titled album due out March 16. It’s very well known that no one will ever come close to Scott Weiland and his talent, melodies, and lyrics, that’s just irreplaceable. Stone Temple Pilots seem to have found the right guy for the job though. On the two songs released so far, “Meadow” and the new one “Roll Me Under” Jeff Gutt fits the profile of what the next singer of STP should sound like. He’s right in the range vocally of Scott so it won’t be a stretch for him to sing the older songs. The new song “Roll Me Under” sounds like a classic STP song. At least it’s not anything as bad as their work with Chester Bennington.

I’m going to cut right to the chase. Stone Temple Pilots are back with a new singer. I’ve been a very skeptical fan about them continuing on so soon. So needless to say any expectations I have for this are extremely low. That being said, STP made their live debut last night with their new singer Jeff Gutt. You might know his name from when he fronted the band Dry Cell in the early 2000’s. They had a song “Body Crumbles” on the Queen Of The Damned soundtrack. Jeff was also a contestant on The X Factor and finished second on the season he was on. Now, STP are going to be releasing a new album in 2018 but, they just released their first new song with Jeff called “Meadow.” While he’s not Scott Weiland by a long shot (no one can replace him though), this isn’t as bad as you think it is. At least it’s not Chester Bennington. Take a listen for yourself and make your own opinion. Personally, because my expectations are so low, there is a chance this could work but, you never know.

There is a rumor going around that the former singer of the band Dry Cell and X Factor contestant Jeff Gutt is going to be fronting Stone Temple Pilots. Which, if this is true, is going to be a really bad decision. To further cement why I think this would be a horrible choice, here is Jeff’s old band Dry Cell covering STP’s “Heaven and Hot Rods.”
