New Release: Fearing- I Was So Alive

For many years now, I’ve been quite keen on the post-punk genre. When I look back on it, you could say that I’ve been drawn into it all at a very early age with bands such as The Cure, Joy Division and early Depeche Mode. Post Punk these days has expanded into many sub-genres as with any genre. One of the sub-genres that I am pulled into is the “Dark Wave” side of things. There’s something about the incorporation of a bit of New Wave into Post Punk that is exciting and intriguing. That being said, I’d like to introduce you to the band, Fearing. Their Dark Wave/Post Punk sound adds a bit more to the genre with interesting dynamics and melodies. There’s also this really cool contrast between the darker side of the genre and a pop tinge that gives the songs a variety that you don’t usually get with bands of this genre. On September 29th, Fearing will release their second full length album, Destroyer. The first single off the album, “I Was So Alive” is a brooding post punk jam with a shimmering light that shifts with the song. Fearing is the type of band within this genre that keeps evolving in a manner that keeps their roots intact but, changes just enough to make their music stand out.

Anticipated Albums: Fotocrime- Accelerated

I keep finding myself ever more drawn into the “darkwave” sound. There are so many bands out there that can be categorized as such but, there are very few that actually present that “sound” in an inspiring and thought provoking way. The other day I was sent the new album from the darkwave/post-punk band Fotocrime and I can’t stop listening to it. The song first single “Turn Away,” has all the elements you’d expect from a band in this genre but, they add a couple other bits to it like a sharp cinematic texture throughout as well as a tinge of disco to make an infectious, danceable and captivating song. The title track “Accelerated” has an electro-rock feel while at the same time dips into some Depeche Mode territory a la Songs Of Faith And Devotion. The band’s new album, Accelerated is out on September 8th, 2023 via Artoffact Records. This is the band’s fourth studio album and the title is ever so fitting. Fotocrime has taken their darkwave/post-punk sound into a more forward direction (see how the title plays into this all?) that shows how to not only properly evolve within this genre but also breaks new ground on what can be added to it. If you don’t know who Fotocrime is, now is a great time to get into them.

New Release: Glaare- Mirrors

It’s always exciting when bands you really enjoy but, haven’t heard from in a while release new music. Especially when the new music that is released is THIS good. Glaare have released “Mirrors” the first song and video from their very anticipated forthcoming album, Your Hellbound Heart. This darkwave, dream pop and goth-rock band from Los Angeles has been leaving quite a mark since their inception and their 2017 album, To Deaf and Day, is one of the best albums in the genre in the last decade. So, it comes as no surprise here that, on this new track, Glaare picks up where they left off but have added more compelling elements to really drive home their style and sound.
