Still In Rotation: May 2021

audioeclectica-radio-logo.jpg

I thought this would be a fun new topic and I can showcase a few albums that have been in my constant rotation for a while now. It’s all over the place genre wise too which makes this topic quite fun. I don’t believe in guilty pleasures anymore. Like whatever music you like. Enjoy it and play it loud! Here are 5 albums to sink your teeth into this week!

01) If It Kills You- Infinite Hum:

This band is absolutely fantastic. They’ve got this really great post-hardcore vibe mixed with the right amount of 90’s alternative. One of the best new bands I’ve heard since the turn of the century. Just by listening to this album too, you can feel the energy just waiting to burst out.

02) In Parallel- Fashioner:

Another fantastic band that should be on your radar. This album in particular has yet to leave my record player or my bedtime playlist since I got it. The perfect balance of ambient and heavy along with bits of shoegaze and dream pop. You can get swept away by this album. It truly is phenomenal.

03) Genghis Tron- Dream Weapon:

So far in 2021, this is my album of the year. This is 100% an album and it should be played that way. It’s a journey all in itself. Everything about it from the layers, tones, songs, performances it all comes together to make a masterful album. Not only is it my album of the year, it’s also one of the best comeback albums I’ve ever heard. This is an album that, like the other two above, deserves your attention.

04) Greg Puciato- Child Soldier; Creator Of God:

This was my album of the year for 2020 and I’ve yet to go a day without listening to at least a few of the songs. As a whole, it’s a masterpiece. One of the coolest and best solo albums out there. There’s so much to digest on this that every listen you find yourself getting more and more into it. I could go into a ton of detail about how amazing this album is but, it’s more fun for you to listen.

05) Rob Zombie- The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy:

This is one of the best albums Rob Zombie has been involved in. It’s got parts that are reminiscent of White Zombie as well as early Rob solo. This is just a really fun album. It’s the album that fans have been wanting and it delivers for damn sure. I recommend this album when you need a good jolt of energy and some fun in your life.

Anticipated Albums: Amenra- De Doorn

I’ll never forget the first time I heard about Amenra. I was a little perplexed but, also very intrigued. I was at a show, think I went to see Boris and Torche and there was a guy wearing this really awesome shirt. I of course had to ask about it. After finding out who they were I did what I always do and started to delve into their catalog. What I found was something epic. Fast forward many years, my friend and I went to see Neurosis and Converge. As we walked in I completely forgot that Amenra was the opening act. The lights had just dimmed and then it all made sense. Holy wow, this band is amazing. From that point I’ve been anticipating something new from them and now here we go. On June 25 via Relapse Records, Amenra will be unleashing their new album De Doorn. The First single “De Evenmens” is magnificent. Just listen and let it soak in and you’ll hear the magic that this band emits.

New Release: Mastodon- Forged By Neron

Mastodon Share New Song 'Forged by Neron'

Mastodon are back with a new track “Forged By Neron” which can be found on the upcoming soundtrack to Dark Nights: Death Metal‘ soundtrack, due out June 18th (digitally) and July 16th (physically). This effort serves as a companion piece to the DC Comics series of the same name, and was executive produced by Tyler Bates. Bates also oversaw the previous ‘Dark Nights: Metal‘ tie-in series. Other notable names on this upcoming soundtrack include Greg Puciato, Chelsea Wolfe, HEALTH with Chino Moreno, Idles and many more. The first one of these soundtracks included songs by Mastodon, Jerry Cantrell and Chino Moreno. This new Mastodon track is pretty damn rocking and finds Mastodon really bringing the riffs! Look forward to their upcoming David Botrill produced album!

F You Songs: Guns N Roses- Get In The Ring

Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II - Amazon.com Music

I think this one will be a fun topic. There are so many F You songs out there. Some are quite the F YOU and others are a little more subtle. Let’s have fun with this one. If you think of any that should be featured, comment, send me a message or email me.

The first one that came to mind was “Get In The Ring” by Guns N Roses. This song was a verbal assault on music critics with some publications and writers by name. Hit Prader, Kerrang, Spin and Circus magazines. Musically it’s a pretty rocking song. Interestingly too, this song was originally written by bassist Duff McKagan with the title of “Why Do You Look At Me When You Hate Me.” Axl then added his touch to it and we now have the end result. I have to say that the line “Why Do You Look At Me When You Hate Me” to start the song was the perfect opening line. Over the years too, every time I’m a bit frustrated with someone, this song always has a nice feel to it and when you sing along, it does make you feel a bit better, especially when you get to the end!

Band Of The Week: Filth Is Eternal

May be a black-and-white image

The very awesome Seattle based metallic hardcore band Fucked & Bound are back but, with a new name and a new sound. Introducing, Filth Is Eternal. Not only are they back with a new name but, they have a new album coming out soon as well. The track listing and title are still TBA. The album will be out August 28 via Quiet Panic (US) / Church Roda (UK/EU) but, thankfully, we have a new song “Zed” to wet our appetites in the mean time. This song was recorded and mixed by Robert Cheek (Tera Melos, Tycho, etc) and it features vocal tracking by grunge veteran Tad Doyle. You can hear the distinct difference in sound and style. F&B was much more speed/thrashy hardcore while this new song delves into a more sludgier and darker territory. There is no mistaking that Filth Is Eternal is badass and with this new arsenal of songs and sound, there is no limit to how far they can go!

New Release: Nine Inch Nails & Health- Isn’t Everyone

Health and Nine Inch Nails have collaborated on a new track together on Health’s upcoming album, DISCO4 :: Part II. The song “Isn’t Everyone” is one hell of a banging track. Both groups oversaw the production of the song while NIN’s Atticus Ross handled the mixing duties. When asked about working with Nine Inch Nails, Health had this to say “It’s fucking Nine Inch Nails. That speaks for itself. You don’t need a clever quote to encapsulate it.” I couldn’t agree more!!

Cover Song: Deadsy (Rolling Stones)- Paint It Black

Paint It Black (Remastered) by Deadsy

Ever since Deadsy announced their return, I’ve gone back to their albums and I’ve found so many awesome songs I forgot about as well as ones I’m now really getting into. As much as I dig their album Commencement, I keep finding myself drawn more and more into their album, Phantasmagore. Recently, the band released a new remastered version of the album. This version features longer versions of the songs as well as a bonus track. While on my re-discovery of Deadsy, I actually forgot about that their version of The Rolling Stones classic “Paint It Black.” This cover is tremendous. It’s got a very Deadsy sound to it thus making it its own. Stoked for the new Deadsy album, Subterfuge

Anticipated Albums: Bossk- Migration

Over the past few years, I started delving deeper into certain record labels and their catalogs. One label that I’ve come to really admire is Deathwish Inc. This label is run by the legendary Jacob Bannon of Converge/Wear Your Wounds and Tre McCarthy. This label has and continued to be a force with great bands and releases such as, Cult Leader, Cold Cave, Code Orange, Boysetsfire, Deafheaven, Oathbreaker, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Terror, Birds In Row and Bossk. Now, speaking of Bossk, they are gearing up to release their long awaited second album, Migration (out June 18). Migration features 7 new tracks of pummeling post-metal; recorded in 2019 and finalized in 2020, this new album sees Bossk joined by guest vocalists Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna) and Josh McKeown (Palm Reader). The first single “Menhir” features Johannes of Cult of Luna and it’s a sludgy beast of a track. This new album, and first in 5 years is chock full of synth noise and atmospheric guitars to towering, pummeling riffs and vocals, creating a sonic landscape like no other. If you are in the mood for something a bit on the outside or the norm, definitely turn the volume up on Bossk!

Songs In Film: ACDC in Empire Records

Empire Records [usa-movie] (1995) - AC/DC's Soundtrack - YouTube

Empire Records is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s one of those movies that really does capture the time period and the connection of life to music. Over the years, the cult status of the film has grown by leaps and bounds. Besides launching many careers for a lot of the actors in it, the soundtrack was amazing. There is one scene in particular that I’ve always been fond of and have wanted to recreate if I had a job and boss like that. I’m talking about the scene when Lucas and AJ are rocking out to “If You Want Blood” by AC/DC while their boss Joe, locks himself in his office and plays along on the drums to blow off some steam. “If You Want Blood” is my all time favorite AC/DC song so, it’s only fitting that I share this with you!
