New Release

Anticipated Albums: At The Gates- The Nightmare Of Being

On July 2, 2021, The legendary At The Gates will be releasing their new (and 7th) album, The Nightmare Of Being. Since the band’s reunion a few years back, At The Gates have been on one hell of a roll with new music. The Nightmare Of Being is their third album since getting back together and it’s shaping up to be one hell of an album. As one of the pioneers of the Swedish Death Metal sound, this is the 30th anniversary of the bands formation so, it’s only fitting that this new album has tinges of their classic albums. The album is about the realization of your own mortality and focuses on nihilism and pessimistic philosophies and comes almost 3 years to the date after the release of To Drink from the Night Itself. At The Gates are back with a vengeance and it shows!

Spiritbox Announce Debut Album Eternal Blue, Share “Secret Garden”: Stream - News Break

Over the past year there is a band that has peaked my interest. Instead of releasing an album right away, they instead started dropping a single at a time. With each single released, you couldn’t help but at least check it out and then there is “that moment” in the song when it all clicks. Now, on September 17, 2021, Spiritbox is finally releasing their debut album. This album features songs like “Holy Roller,” “Circle With Me,” “Constance” and new single “Secret Garden.” Also, Architects singer Sam Carter lends his vocals to the song “Yellowjacket.” Spiritbox is one of the newest bands to really start making an impact. They have the appeal to cross over to more straight-forward rock fans as well as curing the craving for the heavier music fan.

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe- Diana

Stream Chelsea Wolfe's New Wonder Woman-Themed Song “Diana”

A couple weeks ago I wrote about the upcoming DC Comics Dark Nights Death Metal soundtrack. The soundtrack features new songs from Mastodon, Greg Puciato, HEALTH with Chino Moreno, Idles and many more. Today though, the song with Chelsea Wolfe was released and it’s drenched in haunting beauty. The song was written by Chelsea Wolfe, Tyler Bates and Ben Chisholm. Jess Gowrie provided the drums and absolutely crushed the performance. I do hope this song makes it into Chelsea’s set for future shows. I can picture this one being pretty damn amazing live.

New Release: Angels and Airwaves- Euphoria

Angels & Airwaves Deliver Anthemic Banger 'Euphoria' – Wall Of Sound

Angels and Airwaves has always been a band/project that has peaked my interest. At first I was a little eh about it but, over the years and how this band has evolved I’ve taken a closer look and have found a lot to like about it. Tom DeLonge has really crafted something intriguing and on a level that couldn’t have been done during his tenure with Blink 182. The songwriting has grown by leaps and bounds and having multi instrumentalist Ilan Rubin joining him the past few years, has really made Angels and Airwaves stand out on it’s own merit. Recently, AVA released a new song “Euphoria” and it’s simply superb. The mix of spacy synths, precision drums, hard charging guitars, and soaring vocals on “Euphoria” showcases the best of what Tom and company can do!

Anticipated Albums: Amenra- De Doorn

I’ll never forget the first time I heard about Amenra. I was a little perplexed but, also very intrigued. I was at a show, think I went to see Boris and Torche and there was a guy wearing this really awesome shirt. I of course had to ask about it. After finding out who they were I did what I always do and started to delve into their catalog. What I found was something epic. Fast forward many years, my friend and I went to see Neurosis and Converge. As we walked in I completely forgot that Amenra was the opening act. The lights had just dimmed and then it all made sense. Holy wow, this band is amazing. From that point I’ve been anticipating something new from them and now here we go. On June 25 via Relapse Records, Amenra will be unleashing their new album De Doorn. The First single “De Evenmens” is magnificent. Just listen and let it soak in and you’ll hear the magic that this band emits.

Mastodon Share New Song 'Forged by Neron'

Mastodon are back with a new track “Forged By Neron” which can be found on the upcoming soundtrack to Dark Nights: Death Metal‘ soundtrack, due out June 18th (digitally) and July 16th (physically). This effort serves as a companion piece to the DC Comics series of the same name, and was executive produced by Tyler Bates. Bates also oversaw the previous ‘Dark Nights: Metal‘ tie-in series. Other notable names on this upcoming soundtrack include Greg Puciato, Chelsea Wolfe, HEALTH with Chino Moreno, Idles and many more. The first one of these soundtracks included songs by Mastodon, Jerry Cantrell and Chino Moreno. This new Mastodon track is pretty damn rocking and finds Mastodon really bringing the riffs! Look forward to their upcoming David Botrill produced album!

New Release: Nine Inch Nails & Health- Isn’t Everyone

Health and Nine Inch Nails have collaborated on a new track together on Health’s upcoming album, DISCO4 :: Part II. The song “Isn’t Everyone” is one hell of a banging track. Both groups oversaw the production of the song while NIN’s Atticus Ross handled the mixing duties. When asked about working with Nine Inch Nails, Health had this to say “It’s fucking Nine Inch Nails. That speaks for itself. You don’t need a clever quote to encapsulate it.” I couldn’t agree more!!

Anticipated Albums: Bossk- Migration

Over the past few years, I started delving deeper into certain record labels and their catalogs. One label that I’ve come to really admire is Deathwish Inc. This label is run by the legendary Jacob Bannon of Converge/Wear Your Wounds and Tre McCarthy. This label has and continued to be a force with great bands and releases such as, Cult Leader, Cold Cave, Code Orange, Boysetsfire, Deafheaven, Oathbreaker, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Terror, Birds In Row and Bossk. Now, speaking of Bossk, they are gearing up to release their long awaited second album, Migration (out June 18). Migration features 7 new tracks of pummeling post-metal; recorded in 2019 and finalized in 2020, this new album sees Bossk joined by guest vocalists Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna) and Josh McKeown (Palm Reader). The first single “Menhir” features Johannes of Cult of Luna and it’s a sludgy beast of a track. This new album, and first in 5 years is chock full of synth noise and atmospheric guitars to towering, pummeling riffs and vocals, creating a sonic landscape like no other. If you are in the mood for something a bit on the outside or the norm, definitely turn the volume up on Bossk!
