Band Of The Week: Seizures

a1060138663_16

Late last year I went to see Cult Leader and God Mother at The Satellite and the opening band, Seizures, completely blew me away. I was totally intrigued by this band and their performance and I had to know more. I had previously described them as having this really cool early Thrice vibe ( a la Illusion Of Safety) mixed with a bit of Botch and The Dillinger Escape Plan. I still stand by that only now, I’ve heard “In A Valley Of Twilit Meres” new song from their upcoming album Reverie of the Revolving Diamond, and there is so much more to this band than just that. Seizures is a band that offers the heavy music world a whole lot of awesomeness. By mixing post hardcore, mathcore and bits of jazz, they have a sound and style that is ferocious and brutal yet delicate and oddly soothing. Seizures is the type of band that today really needs. They have all the right pieces from being absolute beasts live and their quality of music and songs really shine. Give Seizures a moment of your time and you’ll see why I think they are a band you should be in the know of!

Anticipated Albums- Liam Gallagher- Why Me? Why Not

59553.jpg

Ever since Liam Gallagher of Oasis released his solo album As You Were in 2017, it’s been in constant rotation. It’s a great album and debut and one that proves he can make it on his own without his brother Noel. Now, a couple years removed since As You Were, Liam is back again with a new album, Why Me? Why Not, and based on the songs released so far, this one is going to surpass his debut (which says a lot). The songs so far, “Shockwave,” “The River,” “Once” and “One Of Us” are, in the words of Larry David, pretty, pretty, pretty good. I was and still am a big Oasis fan, and would love a reunion but, if Liam keeps putting out albums and music like this, I’m good with just going to see Liam live.

The first song officially released from Tool’s LONG AWAITED new album, Fear Inoculum, is finally here. The band has decided to release the title track from the album as the first offering. All I will say about this is it’s very much a Tool song.

New Release: Slipknot- Birth Of The Cruel

slipknotwearenotyourkind

Slipknot’s new album We Are Not Your Kind comes out this Friday (August 9). They’ve already put out 2 songs from the album (“Unsainted” and “Solway Firth“) and this new one “Birth Of The Cruel” is quite good. Kind of has a bit of a first album vibe to it. This album is shaping up to be something quite good, I hope.

New Release: Korn- Cold

A second single from Korn‘s new album “The Nothing” has arrived, with “Cold”. This song has the band going back to their “heavier” side. It’s a song that has a sort of Life Is Peachy meets The Serenity Of Suffering feel. Based on the two songs released so far, this new Korn album feels like it’s going to be the one that people and fans will be talking about for a long time to come.  “The Nothing” will be out in stores on September 13th.

New Release: En Minor

One of the most anticipated releases of 2019 for me is finally here. En Minor, a new (well sort of new) project from Philip H. Anselmo, have released their first song and it’s absolutely fantastic. Jokingly self-described as “depression core”, the music represents a far more somber side of Philip that is seldom seen. A while back when En Minor was first announced, Philip described the project as having a brooding, gothic approach that was less metal and more Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The first song released “On The Floor” is a very dark and eerie song that takes some cues from Nick Cave. Getting to hear Philip like this is wonderful. His voice is perfect for this style of music and it couldn’t come at a better time.

New Release: Slipknot- Solway Firth

slipknotwearenotyourkind

Slipknot have unveiled the second official single from their new album “We Are Not Your Kind” with the music video for the track “Solway Firth.” The band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan directed the clip, which features footage of the upcoming Amazon Prime “The Boys” as well as live footage from their recent Eurpean tour. If you weren’t impressed with the first single “Unsainted,”  then this one will be the one that draws you in.

New Release: Killswitch Engage- I Am Broken Too

killswitchengageatonement

August 16th is right around the corner and on that day, Killswitch Engage will be releasing their new album, Atonement (via Metal Blade Records). Today, the band has released a second single from their forth coming album, entitled “I Am Broken Too.” This song according to singer Jesse Leach “This song is very near and dear to my heart. I wanted the listener to feel the urgency, the heaviness of the topic as well as a possible connection. Many people suffer from mental illness in one form or another. I want nothing more than for people to feel like they are not alone in this struggle. There is always someone there to help, to listen, and to be there for you. Don’t lose hope and don’t let your brokenness consume you. Broken can be fixed, or at the very least, maintained. No one is alone in this fight.” A portion of the proceeds from this release will go towards Hope For The Day- a suicide prevention and mental health outreach non-profit.

New Release: Spirit In The Room- Now That You’re Dead

I’ve said this many many times before (and it’s true), Dennis R. Sanders continues to amaze me. The evolution and growth in his songwriting since starting Spirit In The Room is astounding. Being able to take an influence and flip it to inspiration isn’t an easy task but, Dennis has a true knack for just that. Spirit In The Room’s new track “Now That You’re Dead,” from their upcoming Volume 2 EP, is one hell of a song. It’s raw and full of soul all the while being introspective. It’s also worth noting that the sense of melody that Dennis plays with really shines on this song. The vocals have this really cool Nick Cave meets David You vibe mixed with the right amount of Jim Morrison. Volume 1 was just the tip of what was coming from Spirit In The Room. Volume 2 is sure to take it to the next level.
