Band Of The Week: Car Bomb

Being original isn’t easy these days. There is a sense of “it’s been done before,” but, there are some bands out there that have been inspired to create music that takes it up a notch. One band in particular that the inspiration bug has hit is Car Bomb. They have released a new album called META that is spectacular, and the footage I’ve seen of their live shows, makes them really something to watch. If you were to take a bit of Meshuggah, a bit of Gojira, a little Deftones (more of their atmospheric sound), and a dash of The Dillinger Escape Plan, what you get is Car Bomb. This band packs one hell of a punch. From the technical instrumentation, to the scathing vocals, Car Bomb is quite the band to look out for. They are punishing in their delivery, yet have a keen sense of space and bits of melody.

Band Of The Week: Vagus Nerve

These days making music with people across the country has been made simple by the internet. The makings of Vagus Nerve started that way, and the end result is something to talk about. After the end of his band God Forbid, guitarist Doc Coyle began putting together the pieces with vocalist Ravi Orr to create music for the purpose of creating passionate music with no restraints or genre guidelines. What they have come up with along with additional input from drummer Moe Watson of Shai Hulud, guitarist Mike Gowen, and Alex Oxenreider on bass, has allowed them to follow their own path. Sonically Vagus Nerve are a rock band with a touch of prog and artistry to help separate them from the pack. Think A Perfect Circle meets Karnivool with a dash of metal. Their debut E.P. Visceral is about to be released and deserves your attention. Vagus Nerve really allows Doc Coyle to shine as a songwriter.  Based on the songs “Do You Know Who I Am” and “Pull Me Out,” Vagus Nerve is in the right direction to realizing their full potential.

Band Of The Week: Kolm

The ability to mix genres is no easy task. There has to be an element of purity to it. Some bands can do it and Kolm is one of those. By mixing progressive rock, with ambient soundscapes, a bit of electronics, and some good old heavy riffs, Kolm has created a captivating sound. Not to mention they do this a three piece band, which brings its own merit. Their self titled EP stretches past the norm and leaves you wanting more. Next week Kolm will be sharing the stage with three other great bands, With Our Arms To The Sun, Socionic, and Mal. I would recommend not missing this show!

Band Of The Week: Fero Lux

Throughout the many genres of heavy music there is one that has always been intriguing to me. It’s one of the silliest names but it makes for very interesting music. The genre is “Mathcore,” see it’s a really silly name, but there have been quite a few bands that have come through that genre like The Dillinger Escape Plan and Botch. Which now brings me to Broward County locals Fero Lux. Taking their love of bands like Botch and Dillinger along with Poison The Well, Thursday and a bit of Deftones, Fero Lux has created a blend of their influences to make music that they believe in. Their newest release No Rest is a blistering delivery of socially conscious lyrics, staccato riffs, and rhythms that challenge you not to tap your foot. Fero Lux is the band for you if you are into the mathcore/post hardcore genres.

Band Of The Week: Lybria

There are two types of bands these days. Those that blatantly rip off the bands they are influenced by, and there are bands out there that use other bands as inspiration to come up with something that really represents them. Libra is a band that falls into the latter. Taking their cues and inspiration from bands like Failure, Thrice and the very underrated Oceanside, the gents in Lybria have made music that is spacey, proggy, and atmospheric. The resurgence of bands like Failure and Hum have really helped bands like Lybria to delve deeper in their repertoires to deliver music that is fulfilling. These guys are on the right track and can only get better. Their debut full length should be out soon, so watch out for that!

Band Of The Week: Kink

One of the coolest things about doing Audioeclectica is when I get emails from bands asking me to check them out. I always take the time to listen since they took the time to write me. Every so often, I come across a band that peaks my attention enough. Recently I got a note from a band from Toronto asking me to check them out, and when I did I was very intrigued by what I heard. The band is Kink. They are a duo that bares similarities to the likes of Tegan and Sara, in that they are both females. But the music speaks for itself. With influences ranging from dark pop, Blink 182 (their self titled album), Brand New and a touch of harmony, you get Kink. There is a darkness to their pop sound that makes it stand out. Singers and guitarists Dani Gagnon and Erica Schiopu have a way with melodies that while soothing, can haunt you in a good way. Kink will be playing the Viper Room in Hollywood at the end of June, so check them out!

Band Of The Week: Sisters Ov The Blackmoon

10343001_657150111005619_6157930648203655337_n.jpg

Los Angeles’s Sisters Ov The Blackmoon is what you get when you add parts of doom metal, blues, and straight up rock n roll. This band is well thought out and crafted with great melodies, rhythms, and vocals that are raw and powerful. One can tell from listening to this band that the passion is oozing from each of members into their instruments and the songs they write. There are moments Sisters Ov The Blackmoon remind me of Royal Thunder especially in the vocals, and that’s a good thing. As a music fan I want to hear the vulnerability and spirit from those in the band, and they surely deliver the goods exponentially. Sisters Ov The Blackmoon are one of those bands that should be on your radar, as they are on mine!

This is exciting. Aeges are gearing up to release their newest album and if this what we can expect, then we are in for a treat. “Another Wasteland” is chock full of melody and crunchy riffs that will get you more than in the mood for more! This song will appear on the upcoming album Weightless, which should be out later this summer. In the mean time, check out the video below and play it loud. Aeges are part of the resurgence of rock music that I’ve been mentioning for some time. They are the real deal and do it with the utmost conviction and passion, and you can tell when you listen.

Band Of The Week: And We Are Them

934145_10156752446035305_3989002013840928746_n.jpg

And We Are Them, one of the first bands to be featured as Band Of The Week, just put out a new track called “Confirmation” off their upcoming E.P. entitled A Subtle Tyranny. The band whose influences include Quicksand, Thrice, No Knife and many others permeate through this new song. And We Are Them have a knack for coming up with songs that are energetic and full of melody. Each of their releases have shown great growth and ability as songwriters and a dynamic band. The conviction in which the song is sung and played is astounding. I think they’ve really upped their game with this new track. It’s a great play off their previous EP City Of Ghosts. If you haven’t checked out And We Are Them, now is your chance. And We Are Them are the kind of band that put their all into their music and it shows with every note played.

Band Of The Week: Bloody Knives

10387579_10153980186822158_7531621797874080022_n.jpg

Remember the days when you’d be out shopping for music and an album cover and or a bands name would grab your attention compelling you to check it out? Then when you put it on you are completely blown away. I recently came across this weeks band of the week Bloody Knives, after seeing a poster for their upcoming tour, and it totally had the “I must check this band out” effect. Bloody Knives hail from Austin and mix parts electronic, post punk, shoegazerock, industrial and psychedelia. Think Death From Above 1979 slowed down just a tad and My Bloody Valentine. Their newest single “Reflection Lies” from their upcoming release is awe inspiring. Their use of psychedelia takes you on a journey while listening. The moody vibes they put out through their music are euphoric and have a power to put you in a musical trance. Their previous work, especially their releases Death and Disappear are raw and unrelenting. Bloody Knives are one hell of a band and deserve to be on your radar!
