New Release

New Release: The Smile- Wall Of Eyes

What a good way to start the week. Today, The Smile, the band featuring Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, and former Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner) have announced their second album. Wall of Eyes, the follow-up to their superbly eclectic and quite spelendid 2022 debut, A Light for Attracting Attention, is due out January 26 via XL Recordings. This new album sees the band working Sam Petts-Davies instead of longtime producer/collaborator Nigel Godrich. The video for “Wall Of Eyes” was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Inherent Vice, Magnolia, etc). If you haven’t heard The Smile yet, I recommend it. There’s bits of Radiohead in it but, it’s more jazzy, funky, and quite fun. I look forward to their album being one of the first of 2024 that I listen to!

New Release: Xtine & The Reckless Hearts- 8 Meet 6

Being a part of putting shows together with The Cobalt Presents (aka The Cobalt Cafe) the past couple years has been quite fun. I’ve gotten to see a ton of really great bands because of it. There have been a few bands that have played Cobalt shows that I’ve really taken a liking to. One of which just recently played one of our shows and released a new single/video. If you aren’t familiar with Xtine and The Reckless Hearts, you should change that! This all female rock band is the real deal. They are infectious, energetic, and one hell of a rocking band. Their new single “8 Meet 6” is about the current attacks on women’s rights. It’s about how we must all come together and fight for eachother, strength in numbers, unity among the masses. The fight against the war on women! And it’s one hell of a song to boot! Do yourself a favor and check out what Xtine and The Reckless Hearts have going on. I have a feeling you will dig it!

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe- Whispers In The Echo Chamber

About a month ago, Chelsea Wolfe released “Dusk” from her upcoming new album. Today, we have further details on the album, She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She, which will be out February 9, 2024 and the first single “Whispers In The Echo Chamber” has been released. Speaking on the song Chelsea said “This song is a rebirth. It’s my sincere hope that this song and ultimately the full album will help inspire others to empower themselves and step into their authenticity. I’m right there with you on that journey- as I wrote these songs, they demanded to be lived.” I look forward to this new chapter in the catalog of Chelsea Wolfe!

New Release: Osnova- Octavian

A couple months back, I ventured out to an old familiar spot I used to frequent in Hollywood, Boardners, to go see my friends in The Baby Goats during their residency for Club Decades. If you haven’t seen The Baby Goats live, I suggest you do, they are “Fun As Fuck.” No joke, they are seriously one of the most fun, entertaining live bands in Los Angeles. It was on this night that I saw a band before them that caught my attention. As they played, I kept getting more and more drawn into their dreamy soundscapes and shoegaze vibes. With that in mind, allow me to introduce you to Osnova.

The origins of Osonovo began in 2018 as former music journalist and DJ at KXLU FM in Los Angeles, Jean- Claude Vorgeack (aka JC) went looking for a drummer and Sam Ribeyro answered the call. The two would spend time bringing life to JC’s home recording demos throughout the pandemic. It wasn’t until July of 2022 that the final piece was found in vocalist Caroline McLaughlin. With the final puzzle piece in place, Osnova could now begin to hone their sound. Their sound is dreamy and cinematic with bits of shoegaze and alternative rock that all together create an atmospheric yet edgy style that stands out amongst the other shoegaze bands of their ilk. The band released its self-titled debut EP in fall of 2022, and finally made their live debut in November of the same year to a rapturous audience. Osnova has continued to find favor in the Los Angeles dark and dreamy music scene and has now partnered with LA record label Dune Altar (one of the best Indie Labels around) for the release of their latest single “OCTAVIAN,” which is otherworldly!

New Release: Speed Of Light- Teeth

I’m really stoked on this. One of the best up and coming bands in Southern California, Speed Of Light, have released a brand new song entitled, “Teeth” and it packs one hell of a rocking punch. Having had the pleasure of booking them many times over the past couple years for The Cobalt Presents shows, we’ve been able to watch and see how far this band has come and it’s quite awesome to see it all evolve into this. The band is formed by brothers and sister Cameron (guitar/vocals, Tyler (drums/vocals and Riley (vocals/bass) and as a three piece, they are one hell of a force. Their live shows are full of raw energy and at times quite volatile in a really fun way. One of my favorite things about Speed Of Light is that they are original and genuine. There’s no fluff or backing tracks or any of the modern played out crap to what they do. It’s pure and real and a bit dangerous just as rock music should be. Their new single “Teeth” cuts like a sharp razor and rocks with the best of them. Speed Of Light will be on tour with Bad Religion starting September 27th through October 29th. I highly recommend you getting to the show early to check them out if you are going to the show! Congratulations to Riley, Tyler and Cameron on a fantastic new song and for what the future holds! Go out there and kill!!!

New Release: Chelsea Wolfe- Dusk

It’s an exciting day if you are a Chelsea Wolfe fan as her first solo single since 2019’s Birth Of Violence has been released. “Dusk” is now upon us and a North American tour has been announced. The trek kicks off in 2024 on February 27th in San Diego and wraps up March 30th in Los Angeles, with stops throughout the U.S. and a few dates up in Canada. “Dusk” is a bit of new territory for Chelsea as this song has a bit of a gothy trip hop vibe to it, which I’m quite enjoying. News of a new album looks to be on the way as it was also announced that Loma Vista Recordings will be releasing new music from Chelsea Wolfe.

NEW RELEASE: END- The Sin Of Human Frailty

END has unleashed the title track, “The Sin Of Human Frailty” ahead of the release of their new album (out Oct 27th). This track is one of those songs that really encapsulates what END is all about. It’s heavy, pummeling, punishing and has a groove to it that is sure to get you head-banging. With each release, be it a single or album, END keeps digging in and pushing the aggression. END’s new album, The Sin Of Human Frailty is going to be one of the best albums of the year and one of the best heavy albums of 2023. Ever since I first heard END, I’ve been hooked and it’s only getting better. So, make sure you listen to END!

New Release: Filth Is Eternal- Pressure Me

It’s always exciting when a band you really like/love releases something new. So it’s no shock that I’m pretty damn stoked that my friends in Filth Is Eternal have released a new single, “Pressure Me” from their forthcoming new album Find Out, which comes out September 29 via MNRK. This new song is grungy gut punch that’s infectious and ferocious. Their upcoming album was produced by Paul Fig who has worked with Jerry Cantrell, Alice In Chains, etc but, is also remembered by me most of all as being a member of Amen! Filth Is Eternal is a band that should be on your radar. Not only do they have the chops with their songs but, their live show is one hell of a beast on its own. Do yourself a favor and dig into this Filth!

Now, here we are in 2023 and END has entered the room again to destroy with their new album, The Sin Of Human Frailty which features the blistering new single “Gaping Wounds Of Earth.” END is heavy through and through with bits of hardcore, black metal, grindcore, and straight up metal. New Release: Venera- Hologram (feat VOWWS)

Last month, I saw a video floating around different sites that had zero information, other than the title of “Swarm,” there was no pre-sale, simply the three-minute single released in tandem with a mysterious screed and a pulsating black-and-white video. I listened/watched it a few times and it definitely left me intrigued. Well the mystery has been revealed. Introducing Venera, a new group featuring Korn’s James “Munky” Shaffer and composer/filmmaker, Chris Hunt. Today, the pair have released a new song “Hologram” which features piano and vocals of Rizz from VOWWS. Speaking on “Hologram” Shaffer and Hunt, explained: “’Hologram’ emerged quickly from our first session together. A nearly unchanging drum machine pattern nested in warbling guitars. We don’t interact much with holograms but they seem to offer an image of an alluring emptiness and light, which resonates well with the universe we are driven to explore.” “Hologram” is a really intriguing track. It has a bit of a trip-hop vibe mixed with a bit of Depeche Mode and a smidge of Sade. Several guests join Hunt and Shaffer on Venera. Drummer Deantoni Parks (Mars Volta, John Cale) plays on “Erosion” and “Disintegration,” HEALTH’s Jacob Duzsik contributes vocals on “Ochre” and Alain Johannes lends his voice to “Triangle.” Their self-titled, debut album arrives Oct. 13 via Ipecac Recordings.
