New Release: Dekades- The Drones Are Coming

One of my favorite new bands Dekades, have released a new single from their upcoming EP. This song entitled “The Drones Are Coming” is pulsating and dripping with groove. The dark goth dance rock they have created is cool and different. Instead of relying on just the electronic side you can really feel the instrumentation in all their songs. Dekades are full of talented musicians and they show off their skills appropriately without taking away from the formula that has made them so good. I can’t wait for their new EP.

New Release: Spirit In The Room- Jumping The Gun

10865727_1046709078689961_951503422185820255_oDennis Sanders has done it again. The newest track “Jumping The Gun” from his Spirit In The Room project is outstanding. The driving bass throughout the track really guides the song. While the fury of the drums and guitars match the quiet to loud explosiveness of Dennis’s voice.  Check it out!!!

New Release: New Cathedral- No Saints or Angels

Florida’s New Cathedral has been riding high since the release of their EP Ghost. After playing shows with Torche and He Is Legend, they band got back in the studio to record their follow up. The first song they’ve released “No Saints or Angels” picks up where Ghost left off, and adds a bit more melody.

Today the very talented Wild Throne released a new song entitled “War Is A Romance,” and have announced their debut album will be titled Harvest Of Darkness to be released August 18th from Roadrunner Records. This song is great. Loud heavy rock with a great sense of melody but not in the commercial way.

Take a listen and you’ll hear just why these guys are sooooooo good!

I had the pleasure of seeing The Broken Stems open for Abloom back in September. They stood out not just because they were a different genre, but because of the passion and intensity they played with. Today they released their newest song and video entitled “Take Me In.” It’s a soothing, laid back song yet heavy in it’s lyrical connotation. Check it out!

Album Review: And We Are Them- City Of Ghosts

10408641_10154607872085305_3877123776229466629_n

It’s always a refreshing moment in any bands life when inspiration strikes and the end result is something to really be proud of. And We Are Them’s inspiration bug seemed to have hit them hard again and have just unleashed their newest EP City Of Ghosts. Continuing where their most recent release Align left off, City Of Ghosts takes a heavier approach to the music and lyrical content. Kicking off the EP is “So It Goes” which right out of the gate opens with a vocal urgency, then explodes with a heavy yet melodic sensibility. Next up is the very socially aware “Socialite.” This song shows off the melodic tinges of the band. The guitars from Nick Bradford and Chris Matalone really shine on this song as does the drums from Brian Hollenbeck and the slick bass from Jeff Chasin. “Next To Nothing” is bombastic and heavy. The amount of heavy that come with this song is constant. Vocally you can feel the emotion in the screams from Chris Matalone. “While You Sleep” closes out City Of Ghosts. This song is a bit of a departure but in a good way. It shows the growth of songwriting of the guys in the band. City Of Ghosts is the perfect direction for And We Are Them to go in. It’s well balanced between their influences and ability to captivate the listener. These songs are going to be beasts live. Speaking of live, September 19th at Velvet Jones (in Santa Barbara) And We Are Them are special guests of the reunited Abloom.

Dekades- Red Trolley

10402929_802438176474624_3501899161956447166_n

The fantastic Dekades just released a new song. Check it out below:

Attacking with subtle goth moments and borderline industrial sounds, Dekades has unleashed another great song in “Red Trolley.” The vocals and melody are unique and powerful. Imagine if Fiona Apple had more range mixed with Beth Gibbons of Portishead. The drums come out heavy with a bit of a Nine Inch Nails vibe attached to them. The guitar accents and ambience amplifies the direction of the song, all the while the heavy distorted bass drives the song. Dekades are on the right track. I personally can’t wait to hear more.
