Cover Comparison: Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington vs Corey Taylor and Lzzy Hale

When I first heard “Hunger Strike” when I was a kid, I was absolutely blown away. The sheer magnitude of vocals from Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder… WOW! That Temple Of The Dog album is still one of the best albums of the 90’s in my opinion. Sadly though so many people have tried to cover “Hunger Strike” and fail miserably. A few years back Chris Cornell joined Chester Bennington on stage to do a version of it. And recently Corey Taylor joined Halestorm at an awards show to do a cover of it as well. Both versions are pretty bad in their own right. I’m curious as to which one you all prefer.

Cover Thursday: Ryan Adams (Foo Fighters)- Times Like These

I’ll admit I was a little late to the party for Ryan Adams, but since I got put on the train I can’t get enough. A friend of mine brought this cover to my attention this morning and I had to share it. Here is Ryan Adams covering “Times Like These” by Foo Fighters.

Cover Thursday: Corey Taylor (Live)- Lightning Crashes

Corey of Slipknot/Stone Sour is one of my favorite frontmen in music. He is now on a book tour and doing acoustic shows to accompany the signing. Corey does a bunch of Slipknot/Stone Sour songs as well as a good bunch of covers. Here is Corey doing the songs “Lightning Crashes” by Live.

Cover Thursday: Deftones (Weezer)- Say It Ain’t So

YouTube is full of a lot of junk, but amongst the junk there are some great gems. While on a recent Deftones kick, I stumbled upon this performance from 2001. Deftones covering “Say It Ain’t So” by Weezer. At first I was skeptical but after pressing play, I was taken aback by how cool their version is. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cover Thursday: Korn (Metallica)- One

Back in 2003, MTV did an ICON tribute to Metallica. Of all the performances of the evening, there was only one performance that really still stood out during that evening, and that was Korn’s version of “One.” Korn has done a bunch of covers over the years and sadly most have fallen flat, but their rendition of “One” is a highlight. Check it out!

Cover Comparison: Korn/Slipknot or Cancer Bats (Beastie Boys)- Sabotage

I love finding multiple versions of covers and trying to figure out what one is better. I’ve always had an admiration for the Beastie Boys and “Sabotage” is one of my favorite songs of theirs. So when I came across these versions by Cancer Bats and Korn/Slipknot I had to share with you all and see what one you thought was best.

Cover Thursday: Guns N Roses with Neil Young- Don’t Let It Bring You Down

I love Neil Young. He is amazing. His voice, lyrics and music is mind blowing. While this isn’t the original Guns, this is still quite awesome to hear. Axl sounds great on this song and mixed with Neil it’s like they are one person. Check it out!

Cover Thursday: Stone Sour (Metallica)- Creeping Death

Creeping Death is my favorite Metallica song. It was also the first Metallica song I learned to play on guitar so I tend to hold it in very high regard. Recently Stone Sour released an EP of Covers and one of the songs they did was Creeping Death. It’s actually quite good and worth sharing with you all.
