I really like Sevendust. They have released some really great albums and songs. One thing I noticed throughout their career is that they hardly ever release covers. Back in the early 2000’s there was a compilation album of hard rock/metal bands covering hip hop songs. Sevendust would pick LL Cool J’s “Goin Back To Cali.” As much as I like Sevendust, I can’t help but think how bad this is.

Cover Thursday: Deftones (Sade)- No Ordinary Love

Yesterday Deftones released a teaser for their new album GORE, which should be out in April. While talking to a friend of mine about it, for some reason Deftones cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” popped into my head. It had been a little bit since I heard it and now I feel compelled to share it with you.

Worst Cover Songs: Adema (Alice In Chains)- Nutshell

I love Alice In Chains. They are in my top 2 favorite bands of all time right behind Nine Inch Nails. Anytime I hear a cover of one of their songs I have to listen. no matter how bad it is. A few years back when Adema was popular (remember that?), they released an EP that had a cover of Alice In Chains “Nutshell.” Well I forgot about it until last night and now I feel compelled to share it with you.

Cover Thursday: David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails- Reptile

In 1995 while touring on The Downward Spiral, Nine Inch Nails went on tour with David Bowie. While on tour, Bowie and Nine Inch Nails would do a mini set together. One of the highlights of this was when David joined them to sing “Reptile.” Enjoy!

Cover Thursday: System Of A Down (Black Sabbath)- Snowblind

I’ve recently started listening to System Of A Down again. Only the first two albums though. Anyways, while on my System kick I remembered that they covered Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind,” and it’s really good. So here you go!

Disturbed (Simon & Garfunkel) The Sounds Of Silence
I recently heard about Disturbed covering Simon and Garfunkel’s classic “The Sound Of Silence.” At first I was a bit skeptical, but after listening a couple times I actually came to enjoy it. Obviously it’s not the original, but it’s a solid cover and done well. Check it out!

Cover Thursday: Dave Navarro (The Velvet Underground)- Venus In Furs
The Velvet Underground is in my top 10 of favorite bands of all time. Lou Reed has always been an inspiration to me in the way he writes music and tells stories through his lyrics. Almost 15 years ago Dave Navarro released a solo album called Trust No One that was really quite good. On this album he included a cover of “Venus In Furs.” This is a different approach to this song than the original, and is quite good. Take a listen to Dave’s and the original, and experience something intriguing. On a side note, Roy Mayorga (Soulfly, Stone Sour, Nausea, Abloom) played drums on this track.

Worst Cover Songs: Spineshank (The Beatles)- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I remember the first time I heard Spineshank’s version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from their first album Strictly Diesel. I was absolutely mortified. And this is coming from someone who isn’t much of a Beatles fan at all. I’d also like to mention that I really do like Spineshank. Especially their albums The Height Of Callousness and Self Destructive Pattern, but this is just bad! So without wasting anymore time writing anything, take a listen and you’ll hear why this is one of the worst covers ever.

Cover Thursday: Smashing Pumpkins (Depeche Mode)- Never Let Me Down Again
This has always been one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs. When I heard Smashing Pumpkins cover it many many years ago, I loved the song even more. There is something to the way that Billy Corgan arranges songs, to make them his own. Enjoy this wonderful cover!
