Thrice is coming back with a new album this year. I’ve seen them a few times and they always put on a good show. While I was doing some research on them, I came across this cover they did of Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel.” Enjoy it!
Pink Floyd isn’t an easy band to cover. I’ve heard a lot of bands try to cover them and fall short. Pearl Jam absolutely nailed it. Eddie Vedder kills it vocally, Mike McCready slays the guitar solo. He’s so damn good!!! This cover is done so well.
I woke up in the mood to listen to A Perfect Circle. While listening, I had the strange want to listen to their eMotive album. When I got to their version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” I thought this is the one I’m posting for the week. The original is still amazing and will hold for generations to come. A Perfect Circle did a solid job with it. It’s quite interesting how much a song written in the 70’s still resonates with the world today.
Oh jeez here we go again. What and Why? Not to mention they have a fiddle. I was laughing pretty hard when I found this version. The one positive thing I can say is, actually nothing. This is pretty bad.
This week I present you with another cover song that I’m torn on. Stone Sour put out a second covers EP and on it was their version of The Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter.” On one hand there are moments that are really good. Then I think to myself am I hearing this right? I’m interested in what your take is on this classic song being covered.
Stone Sour w/Lzzy Hale of Halestorm- Gimme Shelter:
I have no idea why some bands insist on covering such classic songs, only to ruin them in the end. Not to mention when the band in question covering the song is horrible. With that in mind I present to you all a horrible rendition of The Animal’s classic “House Of The Rising Sun” done by an absolutely horrible band, Five Finger Death Punch.
Lately, I’ve been sharing some of the worst covers ever with you all and it’s been quite fun to read your responses. With that in mind I present to you a cover I’ve long considered to be on the cusp of horrible and mediocre. What do you think of Fear Factory’s cover of U2’s “I Will Follow?”
I woke up this morning with Silverchair’s “Israel’s Son” stuck in my head. That riff is timeless. Anyways, while delving into my Silverchair albums I sought out seeing what covers they have done, I came across this interesting version of Black Flag’s “Wasted/Fix Me.” I’m still torn as to if I like it or not, but I can tell you that Daniel John’s vocals on it are quite fun and make this cover worth checking out. On a sidenote, the era of Black Flag these songs appear are with Keith Morris on vocals, in case you were wondering.
As much as I like sharing good cover songs, I can’t get enough of presenting you with horrible covers. This one is right up there among the worst I’ve heard. I am a fan of The Dillinger Escape Plan, but this is just ridiculous. Take a listen to them destroy Guns N Roses song “My Michelle.”
