New Release: Centershift- My Own World

This is very exciting. My homies in Centershift have released their new single “My Own World” and one hell of a great music video to accompany it. In case you don’t know Centershift is made up of Jasan Radford (formerly of Onesidezero/Abloom) on vocals/guitar, Ryan Shane Stuber (formerly of Shuvel) on guitar, Ted Wenri (formerly of Bemus) on bass and Michael Tarabotto (formerly of Onesidezero) on drums. This new single hits you in all the feels. Pulling from their influences and life inspiration, “My Own World” definitely stands out. Speaking about the song singer Jasan Radford said “My Own World is about keeping everything inside not to hurt others, hoping that soon they forgive and soon they will forget.” Now on to the video. What a beautiful and stunning piece of art. The choreography is on another level. The passion put into the aerial performance mixed with the song creates a tension that captivates you more and more as the song continues. Centershift‘s debut album will be out later this year.

New Release: Muse- Won’t Stand Down

Muse WON'T STAND DOWN

Now this is a very interesting one. Muse have returned to a guitar heavy vibe with bits of industrial tinges and even a metalcore-esque breakdown with their new song “Won’t Stand Down.” Speaking on the meaning of the song “Won’t Stand Down’ is a song about standing your ground against bullies, whether that be on the playground, at work or anywhere,” says vocalist/guitarist Matt Bellamy. “Protecting yourself from coercion and sociopathic manipulation and to face adversity with strength, confidence and aggression.” The song was produced by Muse and Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon). Hopefully this is a sign that a new Muse album will go back to their “roots” and bring back the rock!

Songs In Film: Peter Gabriel- In Your Eyes in Say Anything

Say Anything (1989) Original One-Sheet Movie Poster - Original Film Art - Vintage Movie Posters

The film Say Anything has one of the most iconic scenes ever involving a song. John Cusack’s Lloyd Dobler stands beside his car, boom box over his head, blasting Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” (from his stellar debut solo album, So) into Diane Court’s bedroom window, just to let her know that he has not given up on her. When talking about the scene writer/director Cameron Crowe (that’s right Say Anything is a Cameron Crowe film if you didn’t know) said “That scene is like Romeo under the trellis, But I have this feeling when I watch it that it’s filled with double emotion – both with the story and the actors, whose own trepidation bleeds in.” This scene and song is truly amazing and one that will stand up for centuries. Interestingly, Peter Gabriel initially turned down Crowe because he confused the film with another film in production at the time, a John Belushi biography called Wired.

New Release: Placebo- Try Better Next Time

PLACEBO announce new album "Never Let Me Go" (out March 25) and UK & EU Headline Tour : r/popheads

March 25th is the release date of Placebo’s long awaited new album, Never Let Me Go. Already two songs have been released, “Beautiful James” and “Surrounded By Spies” and now a third, “Try Better Next Time.” This song has a Loud Like Love meets Sleeping With Ghosts vibe. I’d love for a move back towards the Meds era vibe but, I’m stoked either way. New Placebo is always a good thing and this song is a good one too!

The Other Side: Taryn Hadfield

A couple weeks back something interesting came across my email. It was about a singer/songwriter from Seattle and the description that accompanied said “Combining the energy of Stevie Nicks, the lyrical honesty of Joni Mitchell, and the musical experimentation of Led Zeppelin…” so needless to say, I had to take a listen. And to my surprise I rather enjoyed what I heard. And now I present Taryn Hadfield to you. Her debut album, Manic Pixie Dream Girl tells the story of an unapologetic, strong and determined young woman who’s over being afraid of taking risks. Taryn was one of the first musicians to take her talents to the online streaming platform Twitch, Taryn’s weekly performances have cultivated a vast and loyal fan base of listeners from around the globe who’ve fallen in love with her highly dynamic, intensely emotional and disarmingly honest songs. Interestingly a lot of the inspiration for this album came from a very deep introspective watching of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. When asked where that came from Taryn said “I spent a lot of my life being the manic pixie dream girl. In every relationship, friendship, role, job, I tried to be whoever someone else wanted me to be. I wanted to be that perfectly vivacious and appealingly quirky girl for everyone. Then one day, during my millionth tearful viewing of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, I realized I couldn’t be the side character anymore. I, a former manic pixie dream girl, was going to be fully me and I wasn’t going to be sorry for any of it anymore. This album is that story.” With a story like that and songs to back it up, Taryn is sure to be on her way of leaving her mark along the way!

Album Review: Deaf Club- Productive Disruption

Deaf Club just released an unrelenting force of nature with their album, Productive Disruption. The band features Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Planet B), Brian Amalfitano (ACxDC), Scott Osment (Weak Flesh), Jason Klein (Run With The Hunted), and Tommy Meehan (The Manx, Chum Out!) and their savage sound comes with a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind with a touch of metal. Productive Disruption, was was recorded by Alex Estrada and Tommy Meehan and they captured the true essence of the band, raw, live and uncompromising. There is real sense or urgency when listening to this album. The intensity and passion delivered with the performances of each member proves that this isn’t for the weak hearted. The songs are written and played at breakneck speed but, with the right amount of space between to catch your breath before the onslaught continues. To accompany the release of the album the band performed the whole thing live and when you watch it, the energy radiating from the screen will start pumping your blood faster and the next thing you know a full on mosh pit will erupt from your seat. Deaf Club have started 2022 album releases off with an utter bashing to your head in a total good way!

Track One: At The Drive In- Arcarsenal

At the Drive-In – Arcarsenal Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

There is no denying the magnitude that At The Drive In brought to the table in terms of live shows and albums. Their breakthrough album, Relationship Of Command was a much needed kick in the face when it came out. I still remember the first time I put the CD on and the moment the first song was just starting, I had a feeling this was going to be awesome and then “ARCARSENAL” hits and it was all over from there. What a song to kick off an album and live show. The force and power in this song is undeniable. This song is truly one of the best songs to kick off an album. I had the pleasure many years ago, think it was 2000 or 2001, before they broke up to see At The Drive In and what a show it was. They started their set with “Arcarsenal” and from there IT WAS ON! Everything about this song is perfect.
