Memorable TV Performances: Jawbox on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon 2009

Way back in 2009, on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, there was a very awesome one off reunion on his show. The band Jawbox had reunited for a quick performance to promote a reissue of their major label debut, For Your Own Special Sweetheart. During this spot, the band played the standout track “Savory.” It’s worth noting too that (if you don’t know), Deftones and Far’s Jonah Matranga did a great cover of this song.  Following this one off, there were no other shows announced or anything. I bring all this up now because, after 20 years, Jawbox has announced their first full tour in so many years.

Band Of The Week: Deathchant

There are a ton of people out in the world that keep saying “rock music is dead.” Well guess what, it’s not, not by a longshot. Recently, I came across a band that not only proves that rock music is alive and well but, also packs quite a punch. That band is called Deathchant and they kick major ass. They’ve been dubbed psychedelic rock, proto-metal, doom, stoner metal, noise-punk, hard rock, and everything in between, but if you ask them, Deathchant is just, “rock and roll with psychedelic influences.” I couldn’t agree more. Sure they have a “harder” edge to them but, they are rock n roll through and through. Their self titled debut release (out via King Volume Records) is a hard hitting, loud, bombastic record. There is a really cool melodic tinge to the songs and vibe to go along with the psychedelic atmosphere dripping along. Deathchant are the real deal. The album is full of the heaviness you’d want but also the right amount of melody to make this record memorable and standout.

Great Music Videos: Failure- Stuck On You

Failure’s amazing, influential, and must own album Fantastic Planet is full of so many great things. One of the best things about the album is the video for the song “Stuck On You.” This song was released as the first single from the album and reached #23 on the US Alternative Chart as well as #31 on the US Mainstream Rock Charts on Billboard.  The video itself is something special. Released in 1997, the video resembles and pays homage to the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. The video was directed by Ken Andres along with Phil Harder who has worked on videos for bands like The Afghan Whigs, Low, Incubus, Local H and Prince to name a few. “Stuck On You” is one of those songs that is super catchy but, also a timeless song, just like the video.

Same Name Song Battle: Failure vs Blindside- Pitiful

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these so this one should be quite fun to see what you think. Two very different bands with the same name song. In one corner you have the great and highly influential Failure. And in the other corner you have Sweden’s Blindside. The song is entitled “Pitiful” and each band’s song is quite different from the others. Which one do you think is the best?

Anticipated Albums: Mark Morton- Anesthetic

Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton is preparing to release his debut solo album March 1, 2019. This is an album that Mark has been working on for a while. In a recent interview Mark went on to say “This album wasn’t a concerted effort to start something outside Lamb of God,” he explains. “Music is always in my head, and until I write and record it, it’s stuck there. But once I record it, it’s out. It’s a catharsis, more for my own sanity.” So needless to say, this album is full of variety and riffs galore. The album features Mark playing all the guitars with guest accompaniment from the likes of Roy Mayorga, David Ellefson, Ray Luzier, Paolo Gregoletto, Alex Bent, Mike Inez, Jean-Paul Gaster, Steve Gorman, Marc Ford, Yanni Papadopoulos, and Chris Brooks rounding out the band. Anesthetic sure seems like a beast of an album. Two songs have been released already “The Truth Is Dead” featuring Arch Enemy’s Alissa White- Gluz and Mark’s Lamb of God mate Randy Blyth, and “Cross Off” which features the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.

Album Anniversaries in 2019

2019 is upon us and Audioeclectica is going to be a lot a bit different this year. You will just have to keep reading and checking back to see what changes and what is to come.

For the first post of the year, I thought I would celebrate all the albums that are having major milestone anniversaries this year. The following albums are all hitting the 10, 15 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 year marks. Some are absolutely legendary albums and others are just impactful albums that you and I would definitely consider to be great. While others are by bands that have had a lasting impact.
